‘MTV First’: Watch An Extended NSFW Clip From ‘Wanderlust’

Movie’s stars Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd stop by for a chat about the movie, which premieres Friday.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

As part of “MTV First,” Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston premiered a never-before-seen clip from their upcoming comedy “Wanderlust” … but that was only the beginning.

In the clip, their characters embrace their new lives on the Elysium commune with some new, let’s say … experiences. Now we have an extended NSFW version of the same scene that takes a raunchier look at life at Elysium.

The extended version contains some drug references, so some viewer discretion is advised.

In “Wanderlust,” Rudd’s character, George, loses his job and leaves New York with his wife, Linda, in search of a new beginning. After a failed attempt to shack up with George’s brother, they head off again in search of a new home. But they accidentally wind up stuck in the hippie commune inhabited by a wide range of characters.

One of those characters introduced in the clip is Seth, the spiritual leader of the commune, played by Aniston’s real-life boyfriend Justin Theroux. The couple met while making the film, and in the clip, we see their onscreen introduction. We’re also introduced to the characters played by Lauren Ambrose and Jordan Peele, Almond and Rodney.

The clip was just the beginning of the fun. If you haven’t seen it already, be sure to check out MTV News’ Josh Horowitz’s entire interview with Rudd and Aniston, which followed the premiere of the new clip from “Wanderlust.” During the interview, they addressed things like onscreen nudity and took questions from the fans via Twitter.

“Wanderlust” opens in theaters on Friday.

Check out everything we’ve got on “Wanderlust.”

Grammys Live Stream: What Shocking Entrances Will We See?

How will Lady Gaga arrive this year? Join Sway and James Montgomery on the red carpet, starting 5 p.m. Sunday on MTV.com.
By Gil Kaufman

<P>What's the point of getting all dolled up for the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys">Grammy Awards</a> if no one notices your outfit? Since not everyone can earn a nomination or score a performance slot, sometimes you have to make your own news by crashing the red carpet with an eye-popping outfit that is sure to get tongues wagging. It's anyone's guess what this year's attendees will be wearing on Sunday night at the 54th annual awards show, but MTV News will be camped out on the carpet for a full three hours before the festivities kick off and we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for all the outrageous looks and fashions. <a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/10-shocking-grammy-red-carpet-moments/1678986/6893746/photo.jhtml" target="_blank"><b><big>Click for photos of our most-shocking Grammy red carpet moments!</b></big></a> In the meantime, we thought it was worth a look back at some of the legendary entrances from Grammys past: </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="id:1678854" width="240" height="211"></div><p> <B>Lady Gaga egg</B>: Sure, Justin Bieber toted his pet snake to last year's show, but it was, of course, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> who turned the most heads by getting carried down the carpet in a <a href="/news/articles/1657833/lady-gaga-grammy-arrival-egg.jhtml">giant, see-through egg</a> that she incubated in before emerging later in the night for her performance of "Born This Way." <B>Britney gets bodied</B>: Britney Spears has long prided herself on wearing what she wants, when she wants. But someone should have pulled her aside in 2010 before she exited the car in an oddball Dolce &amp; Gabbana bodysuit overlaid with a lace dress that turned heads for all the wrong reasons. <B>M.I.A.'s pregnancy chic</B>: With her <a href="/news/articles/1678599/mia-super-bowl-halftime-middle-finger.jhtml">middle finger</a> firmly tucked into place, the rapper/singer made her way into the <a href="/news/articles/1604583/mia-talks-baby-slumdog-at-grammys.jhtml">2009 show while nine-months pregnant</a> in a cartoony, ruffled blue maternity dress and matching sneakers. <B>Coldplay play dress up</B>: It was kind of cool when Coldplay stuck with their bold Sgt. Pepper's-style suits for the whole <I>Viva La Vida</I> tour. But when they wore them to the <a href="/news/articles/1604580/lil-wayne-coldplay-win-big-at-grammys.jhtml">2009 show</a>, it just felt … silly. <B>OK Go … back to the drawing board</B>: Viral icons OK Go are experts at drawing attention to their music with trippy, how-did-they-do-that videos. They drew mostly sniggers, though, when they donned matching brocade curtain-looking red-and-gold suits to the 2007 show. Their smartest move may have been to cover their faces with red cloth. <B>R. Kelly, man of mystery</B>: Kels has made a career out of being inscrutable , but his bold sartorial choice at the 2004 Grammys was, well, weird. From the neck down he wore an elegant three-button black suit and tie, but the matching Robin mask? Who knows? <B>Alicia Keys gets funky</B>: Nobody really knows what Keys was thinking in 2002 when she walked the carpet wearing embroidered jeans, sandals, a white tank and a sheer green sari-like shift with a built in, bedazzled headdress. <B>Toni Braxton lets it all hang out</B>: Sometimes it's what you <I>don't</I> wear that gets attention. In 2001, singer Braxton sported a barely-there white "dress" that hardly covered her assets with strips of material that dangled in the front and back. <B>Jennifer Lopez's plunging neckline</B>: Way before she was an "American Idol" judge, Lopez sent hearts racing in 2000 with her instantly infamous plunging neckline Versace gown. <b>Chaos! Profanity! Wardrobe malfunctions! Don't miss our <a href="/news/articles/1678706/grammy-awards-red-carpet-live-stream.jhtml">Grammy red-carpet live stream</a> this Sunday, February 12, for a full three hours of mayhem, starting at 5 p.m. ET on MTV.com. And the fun doesn't end Sunday: MTV News has you covered for all the <a href="http://style.mtv.com/category/awards-shows/">Grammy red-carpet fashion</a>, <a href="/news/articles/1678701/grammy-winners-list.jhtml">Grammy winners</a> and Grammy news until the hangover wears off!</b></p>

Oscars 2012 Predictions: Best Actor

It’s George Clooney and Jean Dujardin’s for the taking, but Gary Oldman can’t be underestimated in this up-in-the-air race.
By Josh Wigler

George Clooney in “The Descendants”
Photo: 20th Century Fox

The Academy Awards are shaping up to be a veritable death match between “The Artist” and “The Descendants.” Michel Hazanavicius’ nostalgia-driven silent film and Alexander Payne’s set-in-Hawaii spiritual journey are the front-runners at the Oscars this year, with most onlookers divided on which of these two films will walk away with the top prizes.

Looking beyond Best Picture, the battle between “Artist” and “Descendants” is guaranteed to come down to the Best Actor category. Though five actors are nominated, all signs are pointing to two names for the highly coveted award: George Clooney, nominated for his heartbroken and heartbreaking turn as soon-to-be-widower Matt King in “The Descendants,” and Jean Dujardin‘s performance in “The Artist” as George Valentin, a silent-film actor on the verge of extinction.

Both Clooney and Dujardin are deserving candidates to be sure, but are they guaranteed the win? Could there be a spoiler in the mix? Read on for our predictions and wishes for this year’s Best Actor category.

Who Will Win: Yes, in all likelihood, it’s down to Dujardin and Clooney. Both turned in praiseworthy performances in their respective films. Dujardin’s wordless ways have captivated voters throughout awards season. Likewise, it’s impossible to resist Clooney’s charms. Both men walked away from the Golden Globes with new awards in their hands. One of them will have an Oscar to add to his trophy shelf come Sunday night. It’s essentially a coin toss, but we’re putting our money on Camp Clooney. “The Artist” will take Best Picture, and this will be the consolation prize for the “Descendants” crew.

Who Should Win: Gary Oldman for “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.” It’s nearly impossible to believe that Oldman has never been nominated for an Oscar before. But that nomination has finally arrived, for a fairly understated performance as far as Oldman roles go, no less. Oldman’s espionage veteran George Smiley isn’t the flashiest character in the actor’s catalog, but it is the first character to earn Oldman a nomination. And frankly, few expected the esteemed British actor to even earn a nomination at this year’s Oscars in the first place. But sometimes, all it takes is a foot in the door to win. Consider this Oldman’s foot in the door … and don’t be surprised if he manages to sneak the rest of himself all the way in.

The MTV Movies team has the 2012 Oscars covered! Stick with us for everything you need to know leading up to the awards show, and on Sunday, February 26, tune in to MTV.com at 5 p.m. ET for our two-and-a-half-hour red-carpet live stream and updates on the night’s big winners.

The Challenge: Battle of the Exes ?Crazy In Love? Preview

Tomorrow night is the fifth episode in this season of The Challenge and it seems like things are starting to get heated. Johnny and Camilla have been a strong contender, but after a night of drinking and Camilla trying her hardest to get Johnny’s attention, it seems like they may be reaching a breaking point in their honeymoon phase. The teams compete in a battle of ?Ship Wrecked? as they attempt to work together to use their strength and intellect to climb to the top as the power couple. Camilla?s repressed feelings for Johnny erupt in a drunken rampage as she violently and belligerently stumbles through the house. Abram and Cara Maria struggle to find a balance in their relationship, meanwhile sparks continue to fly between Ty and Paula. Paula and Dunbar seem to be doing the opposite of Johnny and Camilla and get into a groove with one another. That leads to quite a successful challenge for them, and perhaps leads them to be the power couple once again. I am enjoying this season, but I think a lot of viewers, myself included are dying to see what happens with Diem and CT. I hope they at least patch [...]

Are Madonna And Britney Spears Collaborating On MDNA?

Amid rumors that Spears will appear on Madge’s ‘Girls Gone Wild,’ MTV News looks back at their history together.
By Jocelyn Vena

Photo: Jason Merritt/ FilmMagic

<P>Could it be that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/madonna/artist.jhtml">Madonna</a> has enlisted her pal <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> for <a href="/news/articles/1678197/madonna-mdna-album.jhtml"><i>MDNA</i></a>? </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:623135.id:1657989" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Well, according to a leaked album jacket, it seems that Spears is making an appearance on the album's lead track, "Girls Gone Wild." This would mark the second collaboration on the album. Madonna nabbed Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. for the album's first single, <a href="/news/articles/1678478/madonna-give-me-all-your-luvin-video.jhtml">"Give Me All Your Luvin'."</a> While the leaked jacket, which appeared on Britney fansite <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/2012/02/britney-on-new-madonna-album/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed" target="_blank">Breatheheavy.com</a>, can't be confirmed as authentic, a rep for Madge had no comment about the rumor, neither confirming nor denying it. Meanwhile, a rep for Spears never returned MTV News' request for comment. This is hardly the first time that the two ladies have worked together. In fact, they have quite a history with each other. The duo kicked off their nearly decade-long friendship at the 2003 VMAs when, in case you hadn't heard, they <a href="/news/articles/1669706/britney-spears-mtv-vma-history.jhtml">shared an onstage kiss</a> while performing together. It was the kiss seen and heard around the world, and nearly 10 years later it is still often talked about as one of the most memorable moments in the show's storied history. After they shared that smooch, Spears was inspired to get the Queen of Pop on her lead <i>In the Zone</i> single, <a href="/news/articles/1658075/britney-spears-me-against-the-music.jhtml">"Me Against the Music."</a> "I was in the middle of rehearsals for the VMAs and I played her the song, and she was like, 'That's your first single, right?' " Britney recalled in a vintage interview with MTV. "I was like, 'Yeah, hopefully.' She was like, 'I really like it.' I was like, 'Really?' I was like, 'Well, you wanna do it with me?' She said, 'Yeah.' " They later appeared together in the warehouse-set video with one another, playing a pop star cat-and-mouse game that featured a near kiss. Five years later, as Spears was prepping her return to the pop spotlight, she appeared <a href="/news/articles/1598804/britney-spears-justin-timberlake-appear-onstage-with-madonna.jhtml">onstage with Madonna</a> during a Sticky &amp; Sweet Tour stop at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The singer hit the stage with the pop icon to perform "Human Nature" by her side. That same year, Madonna appeared in <a href="/news/articles/1600361/britney-spears-talks-breakups-breakdowns-in-for-the-record.jhtml">Spears' documentary, "For the Record,"</a> where she spoke about the younger singer. "I admire her as an artist," the Material Girl said, adding that she sees a lot of herself in Spears. In 2011, as Spears was prepping the release of her album <i>Femme Fatale,</i> in an <a href="/news/articles/1659522/britney-spears-plastic-surgery-out-magazine.jhtml">interview with <i>Out</i> magazine</a>, she noted that she truly admires her friend. "Madonna. No question. She is an amazing entertainer," she said when asked whose career she most would want to emulate. As Madonna preps the release of <i>MDNA</i> in March, Spears is also the topic of conversation in a recent interview with her. When asked by ABC News what it was like to smooch the pop princess, she commented, "Nice moment, good kisser. Cool," she said, clarifying that she wouldn't do it again. "No, I already did it. I don't like to repeat myself." Well, perhaps a kiss would be "reductive" (her word, not ours), but it seems given the love that Madge and Spears fans have for the two pop stars, they wouldn't mind them cooking up some musical magic. The track, "Girls Gone Wild," was teased in a megamix that dropped last week and it certainly feels like it would lend itself to both Madonna and Brit's musical sensibilities: It's fist-pumpingly dance-y, sexy and all about going out and having a good time, with Madge proclaiming, "Girls, they just want to have some fun/ Get fired up like a smoking gun/ On the floor till the daylight comes/ Girls, they just want to have some fun." <center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:728690/cp~id%3D1672718%26vid%3D728690%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A728690%26instance%3Dmtv" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></center> <i>What would you think of a new Britney Spears/ Madonna collabo? ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance’: The Reviews Are In!

Most critics have panned the Nicolas Cage flick, citing mediocrity as its biggest crime.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Nicolas Cage in “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance”
Photo: Columbia Pictures

Nicolas Cage‘s Ghost Rider has received a makeover from “Crank” directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, but that’s not enough to keep the critics happy. Most have panned “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” citing mediocrity as its biggest crime.

We’ve rounded up a sample of the reviews of the film, so you can decide whether you’ll be making the trip to hell this weekend.

The Story
“It’s been five years since stunt rider Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) signed on the bloody line and became Beelzebub’s flaming-biker bounty hunter. Sniffing out evil and sucking the souls out of bad guys whenever his head catches on fire, Blaze finally wants rid of his cursed vigilante alter ego.” — Paul Bradshaw, TotalFilm.com

The Lead
“Returning as the eponymous not-quite-hero, Nicolas Cage spends stretches of the film on autopilot while waiting for scenes he deems worthy of his particular brand of crazy. They’re not frequent enough to please the Cage aficionado, but sequences in which the twitchy, inappropriately giddy actor tries to choke back transformations into a bloodthirsty skeleton-on-fire are welcome in a film where often-charismatic costars Ciarán Hinds and Idris Elba are singing off-key.” — John Defore, The Hollywood Reporter

The Directors
“Of course, the 3-D is only of any use whenever the camera stays still, but as with the previous helming efforts of Neveldine/Taylor (the more proudly provocative ‘Crank’ 1 & 2 and ‘Gamer’), the action is often either jittery or roving, shot from behind with the swerving rhythm that comes from one filming on rollerblades, thus doing the format few favors. Their glib touches litter the screenplay, from quips about YouTube and the odd moment approximating a video game glitch to the aforementioned throwaway shot of Ghost Rider taking a flaming leak and nodding to the camera amid the unlikely inferno.” — William Goss, Film.com

The Supporting Cast
“It’s even hard to fully enjoy the mostly-great Ciarán Hinds as the Devil, a role he should be perfectly suited for. Unlike everyone else, he’s obviously trying to hold back and not look ridiculous, but that’s also tough considering how poorly his dialogue is written.

Similarly, young Fergus Riordan may not be quite as annoying as Thomas Horn, but he introduces the same issues any kid character does when brought into a movie geared towards adults. Violante Placido does a perfectly fine job looking fine, making it plainly obvious that she’s basically another poorly-developed female character thrown into a male-driven action movie with very little actual purpose.” — Edward Douglas, ComingSoon.net

The Final Word
“Like ‘Ghost Rider: Low Voltage,’ this is a surprisingly underpowered excursion into Marvel’s mad world by Neveldine and Taylor. More purgatory than hellfire.” — Helen O’Hara, Empire

Miley Cyrus Makes Liam Hemsworth ‘Really Happy’

‘Hunger Games’ actor opens up to Details about some of the controversy his girlfriend has generated.
By Jocelyn Vena

When Miley Cyrus met her “Last Song” co-star Liam Hemsworth back in 2009, it seemed that the chemistry between the pair didn’t translate well to the moviegoing public. But the couple is still together in real life, and Details magazine cover boy and “Hunger Games” star Hemsworth opened up to the mag about their relationship.

“What happened happened, and we’ve been together two and a half years,” the Aussie star said. “She makes me really happy. When you start, you want to be professional, but when you’re filming those scenes with someone and pretending to love them, you’re not human if you don’t feel something.”

From there, the twosome embarked on a well-publicized love affair, and as comfortable as he feels with his superstar lady love, he feels equally welcomed by her family. “[Billy Ray] is very spiritual. He’s just one of the nicest guys. Very accommodating. I’ve listened to his music since we got together. It’s awesome,” he said, adding that he had some Nashville-related customs and foods he had to get used to while hanging with the Cyrus clan. “I’d never heard of country-fried steak before. It’s great! I love fried food.”

Former Disney queen Cyrus has always courted controversy. Back in November the saucy 19-year-old told a room of her friends, “You know you’re a stoner when friends make you a Bob Marley cake — you know you smoke way too much f—in’ weed,” at her birthday party. It was a moment that made for some spicy headlines. And a moment that Hemsworth defends.

“She’s in a room full of her best friends. And you have one person who comes in there and videos it,” he said. “The poor girl can’t have one night where she can feel safe in her own world. It’s ridiculous.”

Ludacris Taps Usher For Upcoming Spring Album

‘I’d say we’re maybe about 40 percent done,’ Luda tells Billboard about his Ludaversal.

<P>Are you ready for another <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/ludacris/artist.jhtml">Ludacris</a> album? It's been two years since 'Cris dropped his last album, <i>Battle of the Sexes,</i> and the Atlanta MC estimates that his next one will hit stores this spring. "I get the beats together and I put out my ideas, so I'd say we're maybe about 40 percent done," the rapper told <a href="http://www.billboard.com/column/the-juice/ludacris-eyes-spring-ludaversal-release-1005831952.story#/column/the-juice/ludacris-eyes-spring-ludaversal-release-1005831952.story" target="_blank"><i>Billboard</i></a> of his upcoming eighth LP, <i>Ludaversal,</i> which he anticipates will be out around May with a first single dropping in March. Luda, who dropped his <a href="/news/articles/1674369/ludacris-1.21-gigawatts-mixtape.jhtml"><i>1.21 Gigawatts</i> mixtape</a> in November, also revealed one big-time guest on the LP. "<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> is one person that I've already worked with," he said. "In terms of other artists, you can say that there's going to be a lot of surprises on here." <center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:711235/cp~id%3D1674412%26vid%3D711235%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A711235" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center> The pair already have a few collaborations under their belt. Who can forget Usher's inescapable smash "Yeah!" from his 2004 <i>Confessions</i> album? The two also hooked up on Lil Jon's "Lovers and Friends" in the same year and then again two years ago on Usher's "She Don't Know." As far as what the two have cooked up for <i>Ludaversal,</i> fans will just have to wait and see. Throughout his career, Luda has shown a ton of versatility. An undeniable hitmaker, at times the nimble-tongued lyricist has been comical (2001's "Area Codes" and 2004's "Number One Spot") and in other instances delivered healthy amounts of substance (2006's "Runaway Love" and 2008's "Do the Right Thing"). For <i>Ludaversal,</i> he will get a little personal. "It's been a minute since I've been away from music, and there is just so much to talk about," he said. "So [the album] is mostly about my personal life, my travels, my experiences, rumors, gossip &#8212; you know, everything coming together in one." <i>What are your expectations for Ludacris' new album? Tell us in the comments!</i></p>

Britney Spears’ Big 2011: From A Smash Album To A Ring On Her Finger

A decade into her career, the pop megastar reinvented herself this year as the ultimate Femme Fatale and made a big commitment to Jason Trawick.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Maybe <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>' lucky number is 30. The singer turned 30 this year, marking the landmark birthday on December 2 with a fan-voted MTV News tournament that crowned <a href="/news/articles/1675289/britney-spears-tournament-winner-30th-birthday.jhtml">the Best Britney Video of All Time</a>. But her 30th year also proved to be an incredibly successful period in her career. <center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:720934/cp~vid%3D720934%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A720934" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center> For the first time in a while, she seemed comfortable being the pop megastar that she is. More than a decade into her career, Spears re-emerged as a <a href="/news/articles/1675474/britney-spears-femme-fatale-favorite-album.jhtml"><i>Femme Fatale,</i></a> giving fans a fist-pumping album, embarking on a flashy tour and dropping more memorable music videos. Britney Spears fandom was reenergized as the singer came out of her shell, opening up about this phase in her career as well her personal life in several high-profile interviews. So it's probably not surprising that Spears will cap off the year at #4 on MTV News' <a href="/news/articles/1676177/newsmakers-2011-lady-gaga-amy-winehouse.jhtml">Top Newsmakers of 2011</a> list, just behind Lil Wayne. "When I was younger, I was busy, busy, and I was always singing and dancing all the time. I was just really creative," she recalled in the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/news/638813/britney-hits-the-studio-with-william.jhtml#id=166112">MTV special "I Am the Femme Fatale."</a> "That's when my mom realized I'm a really creative person." She let that creativity shine over the past 12 months. From <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/britney-spears/624145/hold-it-against-me.jhtml#artist=501686">"Hold It Against Me"</a> to <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/britney-spears/639722/till-the-world-ends.jhtml#artist=501686">"Till the World Ends"</a> to her Chris Marrs Piliero-directed "I Wanna Go" and "Criminal," Britney made headlines every time she dropped a music video. But no vid stirred up as much controversy as her <a href="/news/articles/1672795/britney-spears-criminal-video-director.jhtml">"Criminal" clip</a>, which featured real-life boyfriend <a href="/news/articles/1676120/britney-spears-is-engaged.jhtml">(now fianc&#233;) Jason Trawick</a> &#8212; and his abs. "At the end of the day, Jason killed it," Piliero told MTV News of Trawick's cameo. "That was one of those things I was really stoked [about], as much as I went into it like, 'Wow, he's not an actor. This is going to be interesting,' but I really do like a challenge, and I really do like the idea that I'm a director and my job is to direct and get the performance. For me, it was a fun challenge to be like, 'I'm gonna make sure that you are awesome,' and he was." Between video shoots, Spears hit the road with <a href="/news/articles/1668836/nicki-minaj-britney-spears-tour.jhtml">the likes of Nicki Minaj</a>, Joe Jonas, and DJ Pauly D. Spears fully embraced her sensuality on the <i>Femme Fatale</i> Tour, a spectacular show full of costume changes, elaborate stage setups and stunning mini-films. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:638813.id:1661123" width="240" height="211"></div><p> And while much of the 2011 VMA buzz was about <a href="/news/articles/1669849/beyonce-pregnant-vmas.jhtml">Beyonc&#233;'s baby bump</a> and <a href="/news/articles/1669843/lady-gaga-you-and-i-video-music-awards-performance.jhtml">Jo Calderone</a>, Spears stole the spotlight by walking away with a Moonman for Best Pop Video and the prized <a href="/news/articles/1669873/britney-spears-vma-tribute.jhtml">Video Vanguard Award</a>. She also had tongues wagging after an onstage kiss from Jo (a.k.a. Lady Gaga), just before she was honored with an electrifying dance tribute that highlighted some of biggest career moments. "It was really crazy. I had no idea what to expect," Spears told us backstage at the VMAs. "The kids were amazing and so entertaining, and it was a really fun night. It was really cool. I was like, 'Wow, that's really sweet!' " As 2011 came to a close, Spears wrapped up her tour, and MTV News threw her a birthday bash in the form of the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/content/news/2011/britney30/index.jhtml">"30 Videos for 30 Years"</a> tournament. The competition was heated but in the end, Spears' iconic "I'm a Slave 4 U" took home the prize. And just when it seemed things couldn't get any better, <a href="/news/articles/1676167/britney-spears-jason-trawick-engaged-timeline.jhtml">Britney confirmed she was engaged</a> to Trawick after dating for two years. She showed off her Neil Lane ring during a celebratory weekend in Las Vegas. <b>MTV continues our <a href="http://www.mtv.com/specials/best_of/">Best of 2011</a> coverage by looking back at the biggest pop-culture stories of the year. Amber Portwood: No More MTV

It looks like we have seen the end of Teen Mom train wreck, Amber Portwood. At least for the next few years. Find out why here. This judge is going hard on Teen Mom Amber Portwood. I can?t say I blame him, but I don?t necessarily agree either. Amber has been in a world of trouble lately, most recently with a drug arrest. The Indiana judge ruling in her case gave her a plea deal which gets her out of jail, but off of Teen Mom. TMZ reports that , Amber has been ordered to live in a halfway house for up to 3 years and get a court approved 9-to-5 job that she must attend at least 5 days a week. Teen Mom will not count as having a job, and more importantly Amber is banned from taping while in the halfway house. Being she must live in the halfway house for up to three years and maintain a court approved 9 to 5, that puts her reality career on hold. The judge did ask that MTV not sue Amber for breach of contract, and they agreed. While I can see where the judge is coming from, I think [...]

On Tuesday, she dropped a sketch of her gothic castle-themed <a href="/news/articles/1678676/lady-gaga-born-this-way-stage.jhtml">stage design</a>, and in the very early hours of Wednesday morning (February 8), she teased fans with a poster for the trek. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:717952" width="240" height="211"></div><p> The black-and-white poster, which includes touches of neon purple and turquoise, features an omniscient image of Gaga, decked out in her full "BTW" horned look, looking down from the sky. Underneath, in a castle that looks an awful lot like the one from the tour sketch, Gaga, wearing a piano dress, hangs with a group of suit-wearing dudes. And, for those paying close enough attention, Zombie Boy even makes an appearance, peeking out from one of the castle windows. In her long-simmering latest <a href="/news/articles/1670550/lady-gaga-you-and-i-fashion-film.jhtml">"Yo&#252; and I" fashion film</a>, Gaga portrays her male alter ego, <a href="http://popcrush.com/lady-gaga-fourth-haus-of-u-you-i-fashion-jo-calderone" target="_blank">Jo Calderone</a>. Jo smolders in the mini-film, smoking his way through it. Clips of Jo stripping (revealing Gaga's taped-down chest) are intercut with shots of Gaga done up in an S&M-type outfit, dancing and tossing her long blond hair. The same outfit is worn by other dancers also featured in the clip, directed by Inez and Vinoodh. Along with all these developments Little Monsters have to be excited about, this Sunday, Mother Monster is up for a number of Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for <i>Born This Way</i> and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Yo&#252; and I." <i>Are you excited for Lady Gaga's upcoming tour? Rihanna Brings ‘Real Intensity’ To ‘Battleship’

‘She is really, really good in ‘Battleship,’ ‘ director Peter Berg tells MTV News.
By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Besides facing the normal challenges of the summer box office, “Battleship” has a cast full of young actors, like Taylor Kitsch, Brooklyn Decker and pop superstar Rihanna trying to prove their skills in a big-budget movie.

In the case of Rihanna, many skeptics turned their nose up at the idea of the singer making the crossover to acting, but her director on “Battleship,” Peter Berg, told MTV News at New York’s Toy Fair that she was a natural. “She was great,” he said. “She has a very strong part.”

Berg insisted that Rihanna’s casting was not as unorthodox as many may have thought, citing a whole host of singers who act. He has even had personal experience helping performers make the transition.

“I’ve always believed in musicians as actors. I had great success with Tim McGraw in ‘Friday Night Lights’ and ‘The Kingdom.’ Musicians have been acting since Frank Sinatra won an Oscar for ‘From Here to Eternity,’ ” Berg said. “Barbra Streisand, Kris Kristofferson, the late Whitney Houston, I thought, was tremendous in ‘The Bodyguard.’ As recently as Mariah Carey in ‘Precious,’ she was great.”

The director thought it was only a matter of time before someone cast Rihanna in a film; he just wanted to be first. “I was surprised no one had ever thought to hire Rihanna,” he said. “I was a huge fan of her videos. Obviously she’s sexy, but she had this real intensity. I’m like, ‘Someone’s going to get her.’ ”

When Berg initially met with Rihanna to talk about “Battleship,” it was her attitude that made a lasting impression on him.

“When I met with her, she came in a T-shirt and jeans, no makeup, very natural,” he said. “She was like, ‘Look, I want to be an actress. Don’t kiss my ass. Don’t lie to me. Push me. Treat me as you would any other actor. Help make me good.’ She is really, really good in ‘Battleship.’ ”

Check out everything we’ve got on “Battleship.”

Michael Bay’s ‘Transformers 4′ Leaves Fans Divided

Filmmaker’s impending return to the Autobots-Decepticons war is a hot topic of debate on this week’s ‘Talk Nerdy.’
By Josh Wigler

Director Michael Bay
Photo: Dr. Billy Ingram/WireImage

The big-screen return of Optimus Prime was all but guaranteed when “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” earned more than a billion dollars at the worldwide box office. But less certain was the return of Michael Bay, the outspoken filmmaker who directed all three movies in the “Transformers” trilogy. Like leading man Shia LaBeouf before him, Bay hinted that “Dark of the Moon” would be his last time driving the Autobots forward. But as with all things “Transformers,” it appears there was more than meets the eye with that story.

Bay’s return for “Transformers 4″ was confirmed this week during a conversation between MTV News and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. While most fans are thrilled at the prospect of seeing future “Transformers” films, others are skeptical about the return of Bay. That very question — to Bay or not to Bay — is one of the top topics of conversation in this week’s edition of “Talk Nerdy.” Check out the debate in the video below, and keep reading for more from this week’s show!

Autobots Keep Decepticons at Bay
When it comes to “Transformers,” Bay brings a lot to the table: money, name recognition and explosions aplenty. That formula has worked well for the past three “Transformers” movies, but is Bay really the right man for what’s supposed to be a wholesale reboot? Team Nerdy was divided on the issue. See what they think in this week’s episode.

Spidey Goes Viral
Beyond Bay, big news in the nerdy-movie space involved the arrival of a new “Amazing Spider-Man” viral campaign this week. On Monday, Peter Parker’s backpack was dropped off at MTV News, followed a day later by a cell phone and cryptic message urging your friendly neighborhood Splash Page editor to stay tuned for further instructions. The details of the viral campaign remain unclear, but one thing’s for sure: Anticipation for “Amazing Spider-Man” has never been higher. Watch “Talk Nerdy” for the gang’s thoughts on the webslinger’s big-screen comeback.

Burning for “Ghost Rider”
It’s war at the box office this weekend as Chris Pine and Tom Hardy team up for “This Means War,” going toe-to-flaming-skull against “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.” Both are worthy films in their own right, according to the Nerdy team, though only one of these movies features burning urine. Proceed to your local theaters accordingly.

What do you think of this week’s “Talk Nerdy” discussion? Tell us in the comments!

According to a <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/12/27/us-adele-idUSTRE7BQ10V20111227" target="_blank"><I>Reuters</I> report</a>, those gaudy figures (which top 15 million worldwide) make the British songbird the first artist to cross the 5 million mark in one year since Usher did it with his fourth studio album, <I>Confessions</I>, which sold 7.9 million units more than seven years ago. And to think she did it by releasing just two mega singles, <a href="/news/articles/1675976/adele-rolling-in-the-deep-best-song-2011.jhtml">"Rolling in the Deep"</a> and "Someone Like You," and barely touring North America due to <a href="/news/articles/1674453/adele-throat-surgery-recovery.jhtml">recurring vocal issues.</a>&#8232; There have been other big hits along the way to Adele's mark, including Eminem selling more than 3.4 million copies of his comeback <I>Recovery</I> album last year and Taylor Swift taking the honors in 2009 with <I>Fearless</I>, which sold 3.2 million copies. But none have come as close to Usher's mark in the interim. There doesn't seem to be any chance Adele will be surpassed by the end of the year: The closest contenders are Lady Gaga's <I>Born This Way</I> (2.08 million) and Michael Bubl&#233;'s <I>Christmas</I> (2.4 million). The other good news is that overall music sales are expected to be up slightly (3 percent) by the end of this year, marking the first time that's happened since 2004.</p>

Lady Gaga’s Path To Album Of The Year Race

MTV News looks back on Mother Monster’s huge year and her genre-busting, Grammy-nominated album.

<P>Some artists, like <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a>, release albums that are pure <a href="/news/articles/1678825/grammy-2012-album-of-year-adele-profile.jhtml">Grammy catnip</a> thanks to instant-classic sounds that resonate with the Recording Academy's way-back contingent. Then there's Lady Gaga. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:717202" width="240" height="211"></div><p> She's been a bridesmaid twice for Album of the Year at the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys">Grammys</a>, losing out on her first two releases. But with her third bid on Sunday, for <a href="/news/articles/1664105/lady-gaga-born-this-way-stream.jhtml"><i>Born This Way,</i></a> Gaga appears to have made the kind of career-defining, big-idea album that Grammy voters could not deny. It had all the things the Academy loves in an Album of the Year nominee: ambition, deeply personal tracks that provide a glimpse at the artist's psyche, bold musical explorations, strong sales and chance to prove that they're hip enough to get what the kids are listening to. (Or, in some cases, a new album by Steely Dan.) And, indeed, BTW <i>did</i> have it all, from the jackhammer electronica of "Marry the Night" to the tango-lite grooves of "Americano," the techno attack of "Heavy Metal Lover," hints of biography in "Hair," the lighter-raising ballads in "Yo&#252; and I" and "The Edge of Glory" and, of course, the title track, which served as both a dance-floor phenomenon <i>and</i> an <a href="/news/articles/1657772/lady-gaga-born-this-way.jhtml">empowerment anthem</a> for the ages. The album, one of the most anticipated of 2011, not only <a href="/news/articles/1664888/lady-gaga-billboard.jhtml">crashed the charts</a> with stellar sales figures of more than one million in its first week, but it also managed to once again bend the will of the music-buying public to meet her quirky, unpredictable muse. Gaga promised her fans that she was pouring everything she had into the disc and when it arrived, complete with a series of trippy, <a href="/news/articles/1663387/lady-gaga-judas-video.jhtml">provocative videos</a> that also pushed the envelope, they couldn't have asked for any more from their Mother Monster. Frequent musical collaborator producer Fernando Garibay said the recognition from the Recording Academy was a nice cherry-topper to a year of hard, hard work. "We worked on this album for so long and it was like our baby so it was more about if the fans would love it; that was the most important thing.," he told MTV News. "But of course, nominations, yeah, that's cool." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:732837.id:1678680" width="240" height="211"></div><p> The first full-length effort from Gaga since her rise to international stardom, <i>Born This Way</i> allowed the singer to exorcise some demons, comment on her newfound fame and, of course, create the kind of over-the-top tracks that would lend themselves to equally eye-popping live performance. "This album was the most personal, the amount of detail that went into this record, the amount of passion and emotion from her and the team," Garibay said. "We all followed her lead on this, on every song … how intense every avenue of making this record was for us, protecting the record, creative, conceptually, every song was a story towards the <i>Born This Way</i> theme." The video for the title track took the Best Female Video and Best Video With a Message at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. In a year in which she kept turning heads with ever-more-insane red carpet walks, Gaga fittingly raised the bar further at the show, where she performed and accepted the Female Video Moonman as her male <a href="/news/articles/1669863/lady-gaga-best-female-video-vmas.jhtml">alter ego, Jo Calderone</a>. In between those appearances, Gaga also managed to circle the globe with the Broadway-worthy <a href="/news/articles/1664768/lady-gaga-semi-precious-weapons-monster-ball.jhtml">Monster Ball Tour</a>, on which she brought the new songs to life every night in a spectacle that was the visual equal of her studio experiments. Though she worked with her core team, which includes Garibay, producer RedOne and DJ White Shadow, Gaga also opened the doors to collaborations with late Bruce Springsteen saxophonist Clarence Clemons and classic rock producer <a href="/news/articles/1669108/lady-gaga-you-and-i-music-video-premiere.jhtml">Robert "Mutt" Lange</a> and Queen guitarist Brian May, who helped give "Yo&#252; and I" its epic, AM radio majesty. Gaga was so excited to record the album that she insisted on having a portable studio with her at all times to work on new music even as she toured the world for <i>The Fame Monster,</i> RedOne said. The road work paid off, as the album has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide, spinning off a bevy of hits, including the title track, "Marry the Night," "Judas," "Yo&#252; and I" and "The Edge of Glory." And though he's been there before, RedOne added that getting another nod for the biggest Grammy honor of all is new every time. "It's an amazing thing to be nominated for the biggest thing in music industry," he said. "It's always a big honor. I get happy and I never want to get used to it." <b>Chaos! Profanity! ‘Friday Night Lights’ Movie Still In The Works

‘We’re not done with ‘Friday Night Lights,’ ‘ executive producer Peter Berg tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Taylor Kitsch on the “Friday Night Lights” TV series
Photo: NBC

The last time we checked in on a potential movie based on the “Friday Night Lights” TV series, star Taylor Kitsch told MTV News that he knew just as much as we did. “I hear hearsay and all this kind of stuff,” Kitsch said, adding that executive producer Peter Berg could always make it happen. “If Pete sets his mind to something, he’ll usually get it done.”

MTV News was lucky enough to catch up with Berg himself at a “Battleship” preview at Toy Fair in New York, and we asked for an update on the movie.

“Jason Katims, who was our super talented show-runner, is about done with the script,” Berg said. “You never know. So much of these things become scheduling. Kyle [Chandler] is busy, Adrianne [Palicki] is busy, Taylor is busy, Connie Britton is busy, but if we can get everyone in the same room at the same time, we all want to do it. We’re not done with ‘Friday Night Lights.’ ”

Speaking to a potential plotline, Berg said they plan to involve some real-life elements pegged to former Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach but that things will revolve around Coach and Tami Taylor from the TV series.

“[Katims] has come up with a really great storyline that parallels what happened to Mike Leach, one of my heroes, a coach at Texas Tech who was unjustly fired and unjustly accused of mistreating a player with a concussion, which was proven to not have been the case. He’s now at Washington State getting ready for what I think will be a great redemption story,” Berg explained. “It would be critical that we get Kyle and Connie [onboard for the film] — we anchored the show around them — and then bring in Riggins, Tyra, Lyla and all other characters as we could get them. But the idea is to really revolve it around the coach.”

Kitsch seemed to have reservations about returning to his beloved character, but he’s open to a cameo. “I loved the way I left Riggs,” Kitsch said when asked if he’d like to continue on with the character. “You never know. Maybe a little cameo or something. We’ll see if he even wants me in it.”

Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey Play Santa In ‘Christmas’ Clip

Bieber debuts ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ video (and performs with Busta Rhymes and Usher) during ‘Christmas in Rockefeller Center.’
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Deck the halls! The holiday kicked into high gear Wednesday night (November 30) when New York's massive Christmas tree was lit during "Christmas in Rockefeller Center." Plenty of A-listers were on hand, including Justin Bieber, who premiered his highly anticipated <a href="/news/articles/1673689/justin-bieber-mariah-carey-christmas-video.jhtml">video for "All I Want for Christmas Is You,"</a> featuring Mariah Carey. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:715720" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Before the strings of lights were illuminated, performances from Michael Bubl&#233;, Katharine McPhee, Big Time Rush, Tony Bennett, Carole King and Neil Diamond warmed viewers up. But Bieber was the headline act of the night, giving fans some big performances and an even bigger video premiere. Bieber amped up the energy with his hip-hop-ified take on the Christmas classic <a href="/news/articles/1673334/justin-bieber-mariah-carey-christmas-song.jhtml">"Little Drummer Boy,"</a> which included him spitting a holiday-themed rhyme. Decked in all black, the teen star had the crowd screaming. He was even joined by Busta Rhymes, who appears on the <i>Under the Mistletoe</i> cut. JB then slowed things down with <a href="/news/articles/1673032/justin-bieber-usher-christmas-song.jhtml">"The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire),"</a> leaving his female fans swooning as he crooned the holiday standard. He was joined by his mentor Usher for the track. "God bless and Merry Christmas," Bieber told the crowd before tossing to the "All I Want for Christmas Is You" video. The clip features Mariah Carey dressed in a sexy Santa Claus outfit standing in a department store as she dances around singing the track, almost as if she's on display for holiday shoppers. It also sees Bieber and his pals shopping for some choice holiday gifts like high-top kicks. In between performance shots of Bieber and Mariah, a street-corner Santa Claus hands out envelopes to shoppers on the street, teasing an inevitable yuletide party scene. The shoppers are then welcomed into the department store, where Justin and Mariah hand out gifts to everyone. The duo tease and flirt with each other as everyone around them unwraps their gifts. Bieber and Carey re-recorded her classic holiday tune for his chart-topping holiday album, which also features appearances from the Band Perry and Boyz II Men. They filmed the video earlier this month, just in time for the holiday season. <i>Did Bieber get you in the holiday spirit? Let us know in the comments!</i></p>

Usher’s Next Album ‘Soulful, Catchy,’ Taio Cruz Teases

‘He always wants there to be the soul in there,’ Cruz tells MTV News about his ‘Without You’ collaborator.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> is hard at work on his next album. Set to work with fellow hitmaker <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/cruz__taio/artist.jhtml">Taio Cruz</a>, the two already cooked up some magic with their <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/guetta_david/artist.jhtml">David Guetta</a> anthem <a href="/news/articles/1670301/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">"Without You,"</a> and it seems they are hoping to recapture that spirit for Usher's follow-up to 2010's <i>Raymond v. Raymond</i>. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:717257" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "I saw Usher a few times, but I spoke to him at length at David [Guetta]'s house when we were in Ibiza [Spain]," he told MTV News in L.A. after his Jingle Ball set. "He has very specific ideas of where he wants to go musically and sound-wise." Given that Usher has never shied away from exposing a bit of himself in his music, while also keeping the party going, Cruz wants to make sure they can connect the mind, body and soul for this next release. "He always wants there to be the soul in there," he explained. "I'm kind of, not the opposite, but I'm always like, 'Let's get straight to the point and be really clear with the message and be simple.' "So we try to match those two worlds together: being soulful and, at the same time, catchy," he added. Cruz can't yet discuss what they're working on: Besides "Without You," he said, "Everything else is secret." Usher said he was drawn to the <a href="/news/articles/1674782/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">Guetta hit</a> because he connected to it emotionally, explaining to MTV News recently what an important part that plays in his musical philosophy. "I think the world wanted a record like that. That [song] really spoke to the journey that I've actually been on in the last three years," he said. "Traveling all around the world, music sounds different. There's many different genres, and when you see R&B and pop and house, as well as electronic, come together, that's the reality of what music is." <div style="background-color:#000000;width:428px;"><div style="padding:4px;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:713197/cp~vid%3D713197%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A713197" width="420" height="236" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></div></div></p>

Beyonce’s Baby, Britney’s Betrothal And More: 2012 Predictions

We forecast the year that will be for your favorite stars, in Bigger Than the Sound.
By James Montgomery

<P>Welcome to 2012, the year that will either bring us <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_phenomenon" target="_blank">the end of civilization</a> as we know it or perhaps flying cars (finally!) Of course, between those two events, there's also going to be a presidential election, the London Olympics and that last "Twilight" movie (finally x 100!), not to mention a whole lot of activity within the lives of your favorite stars, too: Babies, weddings, honorary doctorates in nanotechnology; <i>this</i> is the year it'll all happen. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:722495.id:1672369" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Which is why, with the new year upon us, I've decided to get my <a href="http://www.amazingkreskin.com/" target="_blank">Kreskin</a> on with these predictions for 2012. Don't ask me to gaze deep into my crystal ball and try to foresee who'll win the White House or the World Series, because, seriously, if I knew that, don't you think I'd be wagering right now? Instead, I'm tackling the <i>important</i> topics. Here's my 2012 forecast for the Beyonc&#233;s and Britneys of the world … partly cloudy, with a zero-percent chance of accuracy. &#187; <a href="/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyonc&#233;</a> and <a href="/music/artist/jay_z/artist.jhtml">Jay-Z</a> will welcome a daughter, who, upon her, uh, <i>release,</i> will also release her debut single, "Run the World (Me)." &#187; <a href="/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a> will win every single Grammy, including a stunning upset of <i>Eres Un Farsante</i> in the Best Regional Mexican Or Tejano Album category. &#187; <a href="/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> and Jason Trawick will tie the knot in an elaborate, multi-denominational ceremony held &#8212; eh, I don't even care enough to finish this one. &#187; <a href="/music/artist/perry_katy/artist.jhtml">Katy Perry</a>, having finally run out of singles to release off <i>Teenage Dream,</i> will spend the entirety of 2012 shooting videos for objects around her house. Her hits will include "Toaster," "KitchenAid Tilt-Head Stand Mixer" and "This Towel Set Someone Gave Russell and I for Our Wedding That We Keep in the Guest Bathroom." &#187; <a href="/music/artist/dr_dre/artist.jhtml">Dr. Dre</a> will indefinitely scrap <i>Detox</i> and instead drop a more age-appropriate album called <i>The Chronic Arthritis.</i> &#187; <a href="/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> will wear a crazy hat or something. &#187; <a href="/music/artist/rihanna/artist.jhtml">Rihanna</a> will release six albums in 2012, each more raunchy than the last. Oscars 2012 Predictions: Best Animated Feature Film

MTV News thinks ‘Rango’ is the likely winner at this year’s Academy Awards, but who should win?
By Josh Wigler

“Rango”
Photo: Paramount Pictures

The Academy Awards are fast approaching, and it’s bound to be an animated show this year — if not a particularly “Adventure”-ous one.

For the first time in years, animation powerhouse Pixar has been shut out of the Oscar race for Best Animated Feature Film, leaving the field wide open for an unexpected newcomer to take the top prize. Two foreign flicks — “A Cat in Paris” and “Chico & Rita” — are in the mix, battling it out against popular favorites and proven franchise hits “Kung Fu Panda 2″ and “Puss in Boots.” But we expect that the Academy will skew toward the surreal this year, honoring the beautifully bizarre “Rango” with a shiny new golden statue.

Read on for our picks and wishes for Best Animated Feature Film.

Who Will Win: “Rango” takes it home. “A Cat in Paris” and “Chico & Rita” cancel each other out, as do DreamWorks Animation’s two offerings. That leaves the door open for the little chameleon that could, played to quirky perfection by seasoned veteran Johnny Depp. Reteaming with his former “Pirates of the Caribbean” captain Gore Verbinski, “Rango” stands out as one of the most original animated movies to hit theaters stateside in quite some time. It’s fully deserving of its impending victory. Having said that…

Who Should Win: “The Adventures of Tintin.” Clearly, it’s not going to win — it’s not even nominated! A travesty, I say. Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the adventure tales from Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi stands out as one of the greatest comic book films of 2011, and in my opinion, the best animated movie of the year. It deserves not just a nomination, but a win, for its fantastic score from John Williams, wonderfully inventive opening credits, astoundingly assembled action pieces and yet another all-star motion-capture grand slam from the incredible Andy Serkis. “Tintin” didn’t win its Golden Globe award for nothing, folks. This movie should already be polishing its Oscar by now — there are no excuses for its exclusion from the race.

The MTV Movies team has the 2012 Oscars covered! Stick with us for everything you need to know leading up to the awards show, and on Sunday, February 25, we’ll put you on the red carpet and bring you all the winners.

Oscars 2012 Predictions: Best Original Score

Will John Williams win again, or will ‘Artist’ composer Ludovic Bource take home his first statue?
By Tami Katzoff

Tom Hiddleston in “War Horse”
Photo: DreamWorks

Much like other technical categories at the Oscars, the nominees for Best Original Score tend to be invited back to the party year after year, and 2012 is no different.

John Williams (“War Horse” and “The Adventures of Tintin”), Howard Shore (“Hugo”) and Alberto Iglesias (“Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy”) have all been nominated before — and in the case of John Williams, many, many times before. Ludovic Bource (“The Artist”) is the only first-time nominee in this category, but his Academy Award virginity doesn’t hurt his chances of bringing home a statuette come Oscar night, Sunday, February 25.

So who will it be? Let’s take a look at who will likely win and who should win, in our humble opinions:

Who Will Win
Though Iglesias’ stark score is a fitting accompaniment to the dark and dense “Tinker Taylor” story, the film was not well-received enough overall for a win in this category. And the two nods for John Williams, who is the most Oscar-nominated living person with 47, should cancel each other out (he’s been in this situation several times before, but the last time Williams won with two films in the race was 1978 — “Star Wars,” of course). That leaves “Hugo” and “The Artist,” and this year, we think Bource will take home one of many Oscars for the black-and-white favorite.

Who Should Win
As much as we love the collected works of John Williams and Howard Shore, 2012 is the year that the newcomer outshines the veterans. The score for “The Artist” stands out in this category due to the fact that its role is doubly important — the film has almost no dialogue, so it’s the music that must drive the story. And drive it does, matching the joy with which Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo romp through 1920s and 1930s Hollywood. Bource has already won the Golden Globe and the BAFTA; an Oscar will undoubtedly join them on his mantel.

The MTV Movies team has the 2012 Oscars covered! Stick with us for everything you need to know leading up to the awards show, and on Sunday, February 25, we’ll put you on the red carpet and bring you all the winners.

Bonnie McKee Grammy Awards: Fashion Fail!

Bonnie McKee?s Grammy Awards red carpet photos seem to fall into the category of ?I made this myself.? If she didn?t actually sew this together hours before the show, than she must have picked up a cheap C3PO costume and hooked a few high school graduation tassles to the shoulder pads. How awful. On top of it all, she actually has some kind of bright red hair mixed with bleached bangs. That in itself is enough to land in this column, but sheesh, the outfit is horrible. I?m thinking that, since no one really knows who she is, she had to find a way to stand out. This would have worked so much better if she would have found a really short person to dress up as R2D2. Then we would really have something to talk about. Photos: www.wenn.com/Adriana M. Barraza

‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ Is ‘Far Out There,’ Star Says

Benjamin Walker and director Timur Bekmambetov tell MTV News about 3-D flick: ‘It was really refreshing to see something so new.’
By Kevin P. Sullivan

When you think of our 16th president, the first thing that comes to mind probably isn’t vampires, but the new film “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” hopes to change that.

MTV News spoke with star Benjamin Walker and director Timur Bekmambetov at an event for the movie at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois, the former leader’s hometown.

After screening the first trailer, plus some additional scenes, and taking a few questions from the audience, Walker and Bekmambetov sat down with MTV News to talk Lincoln and portraying his secret history as a killer of the undead.

Walker made a name for himself on Broadway playing a different president in “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.” His first major starring role, “Vampire Hunter” may seem like an odd choice, but Walker’s first question about the part had nothing to do with the former president or vampires. “My initial reaction was, ‘Who’s directing it?’ ” Walker said. “Then as soon as somebody said Timur, I was relaxed about it. It’s in good hands.”

The flick also marks Walker’s debut as an action hero, a far cry from his days onstage. To the actor, though, the transition wasn’t too difficult, thanks to his director. “The way that Timur works, it’s all the same thing,” he explained. “The process is different, but they’re the same muscles, the creation of another human being. It’s the same thing, whether you’re shooting it on a lens or you’re doing it live in front of people.

“The way that Timur works, it’s so visceral, it feels like you’re doing it in front of a live audience,” he continued. “The movie’s going to be in 3-D. It’s going to be like you’re really there.”

Of course, the premise raised some questions for the star, and Walker admitted there was definitely some intrigue. “I was curious, certainly. I didn’t find it off-putting,” he said. “You go to the movies today, and you’re watching reboots and sequels and comics and toys. Frankly, it was really refreshing to see something so new and so far out there. I just was curious.”

Bekmambetov is no stranger to horror or over-the-top action. The Russian supernatural thrillers “Night Watch” and “Day Watch” established the director as someone worth paying attention to, and “Wanted” marked his crossover to the American mainstream.

With “Vampire Hunter,” the challenge of striking just the right chord attracted the director. “I was involved in a journey to deal with a real historical figure, with an icon, with a monument, and to try to balance tonally the genre and the real, almost sacred, figure,” Bekmambetov explained. “It was difficult.”

The film might have been a challenge to make, but according to Walker, the bizarre premise is one that shouldn’t be too difficult for audiences to swallow. “He’s someone we already recognize as an American hero. Now, we get to see him as an action hero. What’s better than that?” he said.

Having completely rewritten the story of Lincoln is sure to leave a lasting impression on both Walker and Bekmambetov, who joked that he will no longer look at a $5 bill the same way: “Now, it’s a symbol of the vampire hunting.”

LL Cool J: Grammy Host with the Most?

How do you present the music industry’s most respected and star-studded awards ceremony just one night after the shocking death of one of its biggest icons? You send out a smooth-tongued, well-respected host, and let him strike the right tone. LL Cool J did just that on Sunday night at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, relaying both grief for a fallen friend and a call to celebrate music and the artists who’ve achieved nominations this year.

Nicki Minaj Does Her Best Gaga At Grammys

If imitation is truly the highest form of flattery, Lady Gaga must be feeling pretty nice today following Nicki Minaj?s Grammy appearance last night. Nun outfits, priests, crosses, blood, and fire? Sounds like a stage show put on by Gaga herself. Instead, it was the strange and very annoying performance put on by Minaj. I?ve always felt like she stole her outlandish style from Gaga, and maybe even her persona, but last night took it to a whole new level. In case you didn?t see it, you can watch the video below. I couldn?t even tell if it was a song. I know it?s supposed to be weird, but there is a line you can draw that crosses from weird to just plain bad. Even when Minaj?s stuff comes on the radio, I like it for a first few minutes, but then she starts doing that annoying voice and I have to switch stations. This song is nothing but that voice. Do you agree with me? Here is a list of outrageous celebs at the Grammys, which includes Nicki ? Perez Hilton. Ever wanted to know the dirty details about Adele? ? Pop On The Pop. 2012 Grammy Winners: Adele Wins Big!

On the day after the legendary Whitney Houston passed away, there was certainly a dark cloud hanging over the Staples Center where the 54th Annual Grammy Awards took place tonight. Jennifer Hudson sang an emotionally beautiful tribute to the singer, one that would have made Whitney proud. Tonight also marked the return of Adele, who had been silent due to vocal cord surgery, and this evening proved to be fruitful for the Brit, bringing home six Grammys, including the big three – Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year. The Foo Fighters were also big winners tonight, taking home five Grammys, including Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album. During their acceptance speech for Best Rock Performance for “Walk”, Dave Grohl spoke of how their album “Wasting Light” was made in his garage. He went on to say, “To me this award means a lot because it shows that the human element of making music is what’s most important. Singing into a microphone, learning to play an instrument and learning to do your craft, that’s the most important thing for people to do.” Undoubtedly the performance of the night goes to Jennifer Hudson. ‘The Vow’: The Reviews Are In!

While some critics laud Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum’s ‘genuine chemistry,’ others say their characters are underdeveloped.
By Eric Ditzian

Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum in “The Vow”
Photo: Sony Pictures

Based on a highly unscientific poll of friends, family and coworkers, everyone is positive “The Vow” is a Nicholas Sparks movie and remains unconvinced when informed the romance novelist had no involvement in the pre-Valentine’s drama.

The folks at Sony, though, likely aren’t complaining about any confusion. While “The Vow” hasn’t been winning over critics (it’s currently at just 32 percent freshness on Rotten Tomatoes), the film is tracking very well. Box-office prognosticators are eyeing a $30 million-plus opening and Fox, which had slated its own date-night flick, “This Means War,” for a February 14 opening, ended up shifting back the release to avoid competition.

About those “Vow” critics. They haven’t been kind, calling the characters poorly sketched and the film generally a maudlin affair. Other reviews, however, have lauded Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams’ performances, as well as the film’s tonal similarities to Sparks-adapted fare like “The Notebook.” For those critiques and more, read on for a deep dive into “The Vow” reviews.

The Story
“Despite the sweet story — lovely couple, car wreck, brain injury, she forgets him, he loves her anyway — and the beautiful scenery — cool converted warehouse spaces, snowy Chicago streets, Lake Michigan in the moonlight, and of course Tatum and McAdams — this is a movie that leaves you wanting more. To care more, to cry more, to love more. Inspired by a true story, it begins with a date night at the movies for young marrieds Paige (McAdams) and Leo (Tatum). Then an accident on the way home, capped by a trip to the emergency room that feels like a pale version of ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ changes everything. When Paige wakes up from a medically induced coma, her memory has been wiped clean, and thus starts Leo’s bid to help her remember their life and their love, and when she doesn’t, he tries to get her to fall for him again.” — Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times

The Performances
“The best thing in the film is McAdams, who moves through her post-amnesia scenes with a plausible mix of good humor and wariness. Her character retains our sympathy even when she’s making other people’s lives difficult, and you can see why Tatum’s Leo clings to her for dear life. He’s well cast as a burly lug who married far above his station. Despite that ‘nobody’s home’ air of his, he projects an uncomplicated decency, and you feel for him when McAdams’ disapproving parents (the underutilized Sam Neill and Jessica Lange) show him no love.” — Colin Covert, Minneapolis Star Tribune

The Nicholas Sparks Comparison
“You root for McAdams and Tatum because they show some genuine chemistry together; you sense that these two are better with each other than apart. The screenplay, though, pulls things into gooey Nicholas Sparks territory (familiar turf for McAdams, who starred in the film of Sparks’ novel, ‘The Notebook’). … All of these people seem like lazy sketches rather than developed characters; it’s tempting to wonder how moving ‘The Vow’ might have been if they’d been allowed to breathe and live.” — Moira Macdonald, The Seattle Times

The Valentine’s Day Reality
“Arriving for Valentine’s Day weekend, ‘The Vow’ is a cinematic box of candy wrapped in bright red cellophane. Like any box of chocolates, you have to bite a lot of bad centers to get to the few good ones. … Unfortunately, most of the movie focuses on Leo’s much less challenging point of view as the hurt and forgotten lover. This includes an absurdly unnecessary narration by Leo filled with gibberish about moments of ‘impact.’ Eventually the film works its way to what is more intriguing: how disorienting and painful it is for Paige to wake up in a completely different personality and world.” — Louis B. Parks,

The Bottom Line
” ‘The Vow’ is the rare chick flick that’s about brain trauma in addition to being a cause of it. It’s what you might get if the eminent neurologist-author Oliver Sacks tried his hand at a True Romance comic, and, as such, it’s quite watchable date-night cheese — the kind of movie you can simultaneously snort at and enjoy.” — Ty Burr, Boston Globe

Obviously you need to her monologue, which has Zooey singing a song to all those poor idiots out there who forgot it was Valentine?s Day. She sounds awesome, the song is hilarious and well it pokes fun at what I called the Hallmark holiday, can?t beat it. Wondering how the talented singer and actress could top that aren?t you. Lana Del Rey ‘Compelled’ By Britney Spears

Label boss Jimmy Iovine calls criticism ‘a drag.’
By Gil Kaufman

Photo: MTV News

<P>To look at her, you'd think <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rey_lana_del/artist.jhtml"_blank">Lana Del Rey's</a> inspirations come mostly from 1940s detective movies and sepia-toned Hollywood pinups. But the "Video Games" singer told England's Magic 105.4 that one of her big fashion and music icons is Britney Spears. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:724891.id:1677189" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "I'm not really interested in a ton of female musicians but there is something about Britney that compelled me &#8212; the way she sings and just the way she looks," Del Rey said. And even though she's just released her major-label debut under the Del Rey name, she added that she's already kind of over music-making. "The thing that makes me happy now isn't really singing," she said. "Music was once the be-all and end-all, but when you lose everything you have over and over again, it's not so important." It might be a bit early for her to bail on the whole music thing though, since her album, <I>Born to Die</I>, topped the iTunes album charts in 14 countries this week, including the U.S., U.K., Italy, France, Germany, Ireland and Mexico. The chart triumph &#8212; and a possible #2 debut next week on the <I>Billboard</i> albums tally &#8212; came despite a rash of negative or <a href="/news/articles/1678050/lana-del-rey-album-born-to-die-reviews.jhtml">middling reviews</a>&#8232; of the album as well as the continuing fallout from her shaky <a href="/news/articles/1677389/lana-del-rey-snl.jhtml">"Saturday Night Live"</a>&#8232; debut last month. The haterade has gotten her label boss, Interscope's Jimmy Iovine, to chime in on the flack his latest protégé has been taking. "It's a drag," Iovine told <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/lana-del-rey-backlash-jimmy-iovine-286378" target="_blank"><I>The Hollywood Reporter</I></a>. "Maybe this is a new sport. It's something we've never seen before. Or maybe it's [like] the Giants and the Jets." Del Rey herself told <I>Rolling Stone</I> that she thought she looked "beautiful" and sang "fine" on the show, saying that "that's just the way I perform, and my fans know that." Say what you want about Del Rey's looks, attitude and performance ability, but Iovine said there is one thing you can't mess with. Musically, he thinks <I>Die</I> is "really good. Great lyrics and great songs. I don't care what anybody says, 'Video Games' is a great song. When she sings that song, it moves me. It's how we signed her &#8212; she sang and it was beautiful. I think she's really talented. Period."</p>

Sarah Jessica Parker: Replacing Demi Moore In ‘Lovelace’ ‘Daunting’

‘Obviously the circumstances are not ideal,’ actress says of quickly stepping into Gloria Steinem role.
By John Mitchell

Sarah Jessica Parker on the set of “Lovelace”
Photo: PacificCoastNews.com

Emmy winner Sarah Jessica Parker is speaking out for the first time about the difficult circumstances surrounding her casting in “Lovelace.” She told “Access Hollywood” that replacing Demi Moore as Gloria Steinem in the Linda Lovelace biopic was a “daunting task” because she had so little time to prepare for the role of the feminist icon.

“I obviously conveyed to the filmmakers that I was aware and I was sorry for the reasons that they had to reach out to me,” the “Sex and the City” star explained. “Also, of course, the somewhat daunting task of playing somebody with very little time [to prepare] who was obviously such an important person in the women’s movement, but also played such a pivotal role in Linda’s life.”

Principal photography on the film had already begun when Parker was asked to step into the role of Steinem following Moore’s hospitalization in late January. Paramedics responded to an emergency call made to 911 from the actress’ home in Los Angeles on January 23 after friends reported that Moore was “semiconscious” and “having convulsions of some sort” after smoking an unidentified substance.

“Obviously, the circumstances are not ideal,” Parker said.

The role of Steinem in “Lovelace” is small but pivotal. The Ms. magazine founder famously published the article “The Real Linda Lovelace” that revealed the abusive relationship the then-porn star, played in the film by Amanda Seyfried, had with husband Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard). Steinem went on to write the introduction to Lovelace’s 1986 memoir.

“Lovelace” producer Heidi Jo Markel told People that Moore was “devastated” to lose the role. The actress earned career-best reviews for her small role in last year’s Oscar-nominated “Margin Call” and was keen to sink her teeth into the dramatic part.

“It was a shock and a concern for all of us,” Markel told the magazine. “We got a call from [Moore's representative] on Tuesday morning [saying], ‘There’s been a personal crisis and we need to let you know that.’ And we were clueless. We had no idea what it entailed. We just knew she was out, that there was probably a health concern, and to move on.”

Moving on meant finding a replacement in a hurry. News of Moore’s departure was announced on January 25 and photos of Parker in character on the “Lovelace” set surfaced just eight days later.

‘Hunger Games’ Won’t Be Narrated By Katniss

Director Gary Ross tells MTV News the first-person perspective will be shown ‘cinematically,’ not through voice-over.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Gary Ross
Photo: MTV News

For our fellow “Hunger Games” fans who are following each and every detail released about the upcoming big-screen adaptation, one of the key questions is how the filmmakers will address the fact that a large amount of the story is told via Katniss’ inner monologue. Will we be hearing Jennifer Lawrence narrate throughout the film via voice-over or will we see the action from multiple characters’ perspectives?

Today is our lucky day, because we have an answer straight from director Gary Ross himself, who told MTV News recently that after much careful consideration he is not using any voice-over.

“I’m not using voice-over for her. This thing is all from Katniss’ perspective,” he said of the story. “It is a first-person point of view. How do we put the viewer immediately and urgently in that experience they had when they read the book and they’re in Katniss Everdeen’s shoes? A lot of that is done cinematically. I spent a lot of time wondering and thinking about at the beginning of this process, ‘What does it really mean to be in the character’s point of view cinematically?’ I looked at a lot of really interesting references for that, but it comes down to: You don’t know more than the character knows.”

Ross said we will be experiencing everything from Katniss’ perspective; we just won’t be hearing her talk us through it.

“You wonder about what she’s wondering about, you worry about what she’s worrying about,” he explained. “You don’t know things she doesn’t know, and as such, you wander and experience things through her eyes, so that’s the first job: How do we make people feel they’re walking in Katniss’ shoes and encountering the same obstacles and challenges she is?” he said. “A lot is done cinematically and a lot is having someone as good as Jen Lawrence.”

The “Pleasantville” and “Seabiscuit” helmer was cagey when asked about the specific look and style of the film but did promise they did everything they could to make things as realistic and believable as possible.

“I don’t want to start giving specific scenes away, I know you understand that. I will say movies can do a lot in imagery where you can assimilate at lot of the world there pretty quickly,” he said when asked how much backstory he felt he needed to include or whether he’ll just jump right into the story at the start of the film. “The trick there is to make the world as real and as specific as it was when you read the book, be very precise about the production design and what this world looks like, and I think we’ve created a pretty vivid world.”

Tom Hardy ‘Not Worried’ About Bane Voice Complaints

‘I trust Christopher Nolan implicitly,’ Hardy tells MTV News of his ‘Dark Knight Rises’ director.
By Kara Warner

Tom Hardy as Bane in “Dark Knight Rises”
Photo: Warner Bros.

Those of you following the seemingly never-ending Internet musings about “The Dark Knight Rises” are likely very well of the fact that the biggest story surrounding the film at this point in time is whether or not audiences will be able to understand the words Tom Hardy as villainous Bane is saying through his frightening mask.

Ever since fans got an early glimpse at Hardy in the role via a sneak peek of the film’s six-minute opening sequence in December, there has been growing concern and a lot of pre-emptive freaking out over the fact that we’re not going to be able to understand anything Bane says.

When MTV News caught up with Hardy at the U.S. premiere of his upcoming action/romantic comedy “This Means War,” we asked him how concerned he is about audiences understanding his dialogue.

“Not at all. I trust [director] Christopher Nolan implicitly. I’m not worried at all about people understanding him mumbling away,” Hardy said. “But I have seen some brilliant stuff online about [my mumbling] ‘Mmmm … Batman doesn’t beat up retards!,’ which I thought was very funny. I enjoyed that,” he said with a smile, referencing the veritable commotion his voice has made online via various analytical blog posts and the parody Twitter account @MuffledBane.

So there you have it. Trust in Christopher Nolan, people: The Oscar nominated writer/director has said as much himself.

“I think when people see the film, things will come into focus,” Nolan told Entertainment Weekly recently. “Bane is very complex and very interesting,” he said. “And when people see the finished film, people will be very entertained by him.”

For his part, Hardy did admit that Bane’s mask is pretty tight, but seems to have enjoyed the villainous aspects of the character, without getting carried away by it.

“I didn’t get into a dark place at all,” Hardy told Latino Review of his “brutal” and “heavy-handed” character. “A lot of dark characters are easy to have distance from. It’s something I feel comfortable with, I suppose.”

Britney Spears Has ‘Crazy’ Cameo On will.i.am’s Album?

<P>In a sea of A-list contributions for will.i.am's forthcoming solo album, the Black Eyed Peas mastermind recently dropped one name that will really get pop fans excited. Speaking with <a href="http://www.capitalfm.com/artists/william/news/britney-spears-alicia-keys-new-album/" target="_blank">Capital FM</a>, will teased that his <i>Femme Fatale</i> collaborator Britney Spears will make an appearance on the album, dubbed <i>#willpower.</i> </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:638813" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "I have a song with Alicia Keys &#8212; me, Alicia and Swedish House Mafia. I have a song with the Beats, which is pretty grand. Me and Shakira have been trying to finish the stuff we started, and me and Britney is really crazy," he said. "So we got a song with me, LMFAO and Eva Simons, a song with me and Busta Rhymes and Swizz Beatz &#8212; I got a whole other bunch of collaborations." Spears and will.i.am last worked together on "Big Fat Bass," a spacey, grinding party tune complete with clapping noises and some rapping from will himself. Their recording session was featured on the MTV special <a href="/news/articles/1660830/britney-spears-femme-fatale-previews.jhtml">"I Am the Femme Fatale."</a> There's been no word yet from will's camp about the song and whether this is a new track or if he will be including "Big Fat Bass" on the album. The rapper/producer's love for Brit is hardly anything new: He <a href="/news/articles/1662289/britney-spears-will-i-am-big-fat-bass.jhtml">gushed to MTV News about the pop princess</a> months after they recorded together. "[I discovered] her love for music. I never seen anyone, like, come alive, full of excitement and giggling and laughing behind the mic," will recalled to MTV News. "She was like a little kid when she was recording the song, and it just brought the whole atmosphere, it changed the whole atmosphere when someone really loves music. So it was great working with her." His latest single, "T.H.E (The Hardest Ever)," featuring Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger, dropped late last year. <i>#willpower,</i> which also features "X Factor" judge Nicole Scherzinger, will be released later this year. <i>What are you expecting from will and Brit's collabo? Let us know in the comments!</i></p>

Lady Gaga Unveils Elaborate Born This Way Stage

Mother Monster tweets out a sketch of the stage, which takes on a gothic castle theme.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> is going all out for her <i>Born This Way</i> Ball. As promised, on Tuesday (February 7), the singer revealed a sketch of what her forthcoming <a href="/news/articles/1678472/lady-gaga-born-this-way-tour-stage.jhtml">tour stage</a> will look like. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:717952" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "I'm so excited. The Haus has been working so hard, we can't wait for you to see it!!" she <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga" target="_blank">wrote</a> in the lead-up to the reveal, before adding, "Love you Little Monsters, have the time of your life." So what should all those Little Monsters expect from the one and only Mother Monster for this trek? It looks like the <i>Born This Way</i> Ball will be taking place in an elaborately designed gothic castle that includes intricate details like viewing towers, cross-like carvings and a catwalk that extends right into the audience, bringing Gaga close to her many legions of dedicated fans. The look is a far cry from her <a href="/news/articles/1658395/lady-gaga-monster-ball-new-york.jhtml">Monster Ball tour</a>, which was set in modern-day New York City, complete with a subway car, lighted marquees and, yes, a giant monster that Gaga and her dancers had to defeat in order to attend the oft-teased Monster Ball. This new tour will kick off sometime this year and continue right through 2013. Haus member and <i>BTW</i> producer Fernando Garibay shared with MTV News in December that the show will be reflective of the 2011 album. "This album was the most personal [because of] the amount of detail that went into this record, the amount of passion [and] emotion from her and the team," he said. "Every song was a story towards the <i>Born This Way</i> theme. We're excited now, putting that into the tour and expressing that on a live performance level. "You can imagine what happened on the Monster Ball, so use your imagination," he said. "That's what's going to happen, exaggerated." <center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:714688/cp~id%3D1672718%26vid%3D714688%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A714688%26instance%3Dmtv" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></center> <i>What do you think of Lady Gaga's</i> Born This Way <i>stage? ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Latest preview reveals Spidey’s new mask — and his attitude.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

“Spider-Man” fans who stayed up late Monday were treated to the second trailer from the superhero’s upcoming reboot. The preview for “The Amazing Spider-Man” showed off new action sequences, a transformed reptilian villain and the smart-ass attitude fans of the comics have missed in recent years.

We’ve watched the trailer more times than we care to mention and took the opportunity to break down our favorite moments. Here are the five key scenes from the “Amazing Spider-Man” trailer:

Mask
You’d have to think back hard, but believe it or not, the first trailer only included a glimpse at Spider-Man’s mask. It may not seem like that big of a deal, but it isn’t until you see the old red-and-blue for a period longer than half a second that you realized what you were missing. The new suit looks good, if slightly over-stylized, but the mask brings it home and makes it feel like a “Spider-Man” movie.

Attitude
“Spider-Man 3″ may have caused you to forget that Spider-Man is actually kind of a smart-ass and not just an emo guy who dances in the street with side bangs and zero self-awareness. In “Amazing,” the wisecracking Spidey returns to make a carjacker feel like a complete dumbass, as he should. Andrew Garfield‘s take on the hero brings back the fun, intentionally.

Mr. and Mrs. Parker
The official plot synopsis released a few weeks ago focused on Dr. Connors’ connection to the flighty parents that Mr. and Mrs. Parker were. The trailer plays off that new information and shows Peter hunting down the one-armed doctor to find out what happened to the parents he barely knew. It’s an element we haven’t seen in the previous films and one “Amazing” wants to put front and center.

Lizard
With the extra emphasis on Curt Connors comes an extended look at his bigger, greener side. After teases with flipped cars, we get to see the Lizard fully transformed, albeit a fleeting peek. They wouldn’t want to spoil it all for us, but we saw enough to confirm that the PEZ dispenser was, in fact, accurate.

The Spire
The trailer finishes with a shot from an action sequence that most likely takes place near the end of the film. Peter stands on the spire of a skyscraper, dressed in Spider-Man attire from the neck down, but he won’t be standing for long. The spike begins to tumble, and Pete struggles to not fall with it. The shot brings the serious action notes the first trailer lacked and makes us question how much we haven’t seen from the film.

Los Angeles

I’m here! I’m here! And I saw my first gang-banger get arrested yesterday so I feel like a total Angeleno.

I’m getting ready to go to the gym (again, like a total Angeleno!) so I will update later about my run-ins with Alexander Skarsgard, Pauly Shore, and Jeremy or Jason London (I’m not sure which one it was and seeing if I could force him to do drugs to find out seemed unfair. Besides, as it turned out, he was telling the truth?)

Anyhoo, I’ve got a lot to tell you about gardening! (Did you know if you get dirt wet it turns into mud? Yuck.)

And bumpers! (They don’t bump off anything… they go, “Scraaaaaaaatch!”)

And there’s probably more but, again, I have to go because I have to get to the gym!
