February 24th, 2012Adele Notches Best Sales Year Since Usher’s Confessions
February 24th, 2012 In 2011, 21 moved more than 5.6 million copies in the U.S.
By Gil Kaufman
<P>The music industry has been stuck in a rut for nearly a decade. But every once in a while, it still manages to produce one of those unstoppable hit albums that give everyone that good old feeling. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:604336" width="240" height="211"></div><p> This year's model is <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a>'s <I>21</I>, which not only sold more copies than any other album in the U.S. in 2011 (more than 5.6 million to date), but which has also moved the most units of any artist since 2004. According to a <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/12/27/us-adele-idUSTRE7BQ10V20111227" target="_blank"><I>Reuters</I> report</a>, those gaudy figures (which top 15 million worldwide) make the British songbird the first artist to cross the 5 million mark in one year since Usher did it with his fourth studio album, <I>Confessions</I>, which sold 7.9 million units more than seven years ago. And to think she did it by releasing just two mega singles, <a href="/news/articles/1675976/adele-rolling-in-the-deep-best-song-2011.jhtml">"Rolling in the Deep"</a> and "Someone Like You," and barely touring North America due to <a href="/news/articles/1674453/adele-throat-surgery-recovery.jhtml">recurring vocal issues.</a>
There have been other big hits along the way to Adele's mark, including Eminem selling more than 3.4 million copies of his comeback <I>Recovery</I> album last year and Taylor Swift taking the honors in 2009 with <I>Fearless</I>, which sold 3.2 million copies. But none have come as close to Usher's mark in the interim. There doesn't seem to be any chance Adele will be surpassed by the end of the year: The closest contenders are Lady Gaga's <I>Born This Way</I> (2.08 million) and Michael Bublé's <I>Christmas</I> (2.4 million). The other good news is that overall music sales are expected to be up slightly (3 percent) by the end of this year, marking the first time that's happened since 2004.</p>

Oscar Winners: Who’s Had The Steepest Drop?
February 23rd, 2012Renée Zellweger, Adrien Brody and others have faded since their night of Oscar glory.

Oscar night is supposed to be the night where dreams come true and careers are made, but for many actors over the years, it has marked the beginning of a downward trend. Among the list of past winners, you’ll find some of Hollywood’s most timeless faces. But you’ll also find some names that have faded since their night of Oscar glory.
Through no fault of their own, some actors have struggled to escape from under the weight of an Academy Award win — especially if it came early in their career. Despite their best efforts, they have yet to repeat their previous levels of success and live up to the title “Academy Award winner.”
Here are some of the steepest falls for Oscar winners in recent years:
Hilary Swank
Despite two wins for Best Actress, Hilary Swank’s career maps out with two peaks and large valleys in between. Not counting her winning roles in “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Million Dollar Baby,” none of Swank’s leading roles have caught much traction either financially or critically. Her more commercial choices like “P.S. I Love You” and “The Reaping” failed to capture their respective target audiences, and Oscar bait like “Conviction” and “Amelia” saw only mild critical response.
Cuba Gooding, Jr.
His iconic role in “Jerry Maguire” and the catchphrase that followed (“Show me the money!”) marked the beginning of a steep and fast drop in Gooding’s career. Embarrassing roles in films like “Snow Dogs” and “Boat Trip” became examples of how far an Academy Award winner could fall. Gooding has made some notable appearances in films like “Red Tails” and “Pearl Harbor,” but his turn in “Radio” earned ridicule from Robert Downey Jr.’s character in “Tropic Thunder.”
Renee Zellweger
After two previous nominations, Zellweger won her golden statue for “Cold Mountain” but has yet to earn similar praise since. She earned three nominations in as many years, but since then, the accolades have dried up. Her major starring roles in “Miss Potter” and “New in Town” did not live up to the critical or financial standards set by “Chicago” or “Bridget Jones’s Diary.”
Adrien Brody
Though he had a notable cameo in this year’s critical darling “Midnight in Paris,” Brody has picked his movie roles selectively, appearing only once or twice a year and not always as the star. He found moderate box-office success as the second leading man behind a giant ape in Peter Jackson’s “King Kong” remake, but starring vehicles like “The Jacket” fell flat.
Kim Basinger
Though Basinger’s decreasing presence in Hollywood after a decade as a blond big-screen bombshell may have coincided with her Oscar win, the signs of a dropoff after are there. Her role in “L.A. Confidential” became iconic and one of the film’s key images, but Basinger’s career began to lose steam soon after. She starred in minor dramas like “I Dreamed of Africa” and “The Door in the Floor.” She even made a memorable turn as Eminem’s mother in “8 Mile,” but smaller roles kept her from the former spotlight.

Captain America
February 23rd, 2012Go see Captain America this weekend! Support our Colin!

I went to the premiere on Tuesday and it was the coolest thing ever. First, the movie is AMAZING and Chris Evans is a superstar. Second, there were so many damn people there it was insane. I have been to movie premieres in New York before and they were nothing like this. I mean, they closed down Hollywood Boulevard. I would’ve taken photos to show you, but the invite said to leave phones in the car. But here’s a photo of me in my cool Captain America 3D glasses:
(Sit down, stop jumping around, it’s an awesome picture, I know. And the quality is amazing. It’s not grainy or reddish… it’s perfect.) (No, it’s not.)
(And you can totally see the Captain America logo on the side of the glasses.) (No, you can’t.)
Anyway, Captain America is pulling a strong 71% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes right now so GO SEE IT! IT’S FANTASTIC!

February 22nd, 2012Shockers in tonight’s episode, people. Seriously. And guess what? It was the winter finale and we won’t get our Glee fix until April. Yes, you heard me right. April. Sigh. And wouldn’t you know it, they give us one helluva cliffhanger. I did not see that one coming. Okay, without further ado, here’s what happened on Glee. So Dave Karofsky is outed thanks to the kid who saw him at Breadstix with Kurt last week, and said kid sprayed his locker with an anti-gay slur, prompting Karofsky to head home with a myriad of emotions. He goes online and sees more anti-gay messages directed towards him. Overwhelmed by everything, he puts on a suit and tries to hang himself in his closet. I was in absolute shock. Even after everything he had done to Kurt, my heart broke for him. We learn that Dave’s father found him and he is in the hospital. On a side note, Max Adler was amazing tonight. Simply ahhh-mazing. The kids at McKinley can’t believe what has happened, especially Kurt, who feels responsible for not answering Karofsky’s texts or phone calls. Robyn Crawford: Whitney Houston?s Lesbian Lover?
February 21st, 2012Was Robyn Crawford Whitney Houston’s lesbian lover? The rumors that once haunted the singer are now coming back. But what is the real deal? The Daily Mail has a feature today with Gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell, who met Whitney at an HIV vigil in London in 1991. He is claiming that Whitney was in fact in a relationship with Robyn Crawford back in the 90?s and that the rumors were true. Whitney always denied these rumors telling Rolling Stone in 1993, ?You know what? I am so tired of this. I?m really sick of it. People want to know if there is a relationship: Our relationship is that we?re friends. We?ve been friends since we were kids. She now is my employee. I?m her employer. And we?re still best of friends. That?s what it is. You mean to tell me that if I have a woman friend, I have to have a lesbian relationship with her? That?s bulls?.? Robyn and Whitney met when she was just 16 years old and remained close friends, with Robyn eventually becoming Whitney?s assistant. Peter tells the DM that when he met the two, he felt it was obvious that they were in love. [...]

Lana Del Rey ‘Compelled’ By Britney Spears
February 20th, 2012 Label boss Jimmy Iovine calls criticism ‘a drag.’
By Gil Kaufman
<P>To look at her, you'd think <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rey_lana_del/artist.jhtml"_blank">Lana Del Rey's</a> inspirations come mostly from 1940s detective movies and sepia-toned Hollywood pinups. But the "Video Games" singer told England's Magic 105.4 that one of her big fashion and music icons is Britney Spears. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:724891.id:1677189" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "I'm not really interested in a ton of female musicians but there is something about Britney that compelled me — the way she sings and just the way she looks," Del Rey said. And even though she's just released her major-label debut under the Del Rey name, she added that she's already kind of over music-making. "The thing that makes me happy now isn't really singing," she said. "Music was once the be-all and end-all, but when you lose everything you have over and over again, it's not so important." It might be a bit early for her to bail on the whole music thing though, since her album, <I>Born to Die</I>, topped the iTunes album charts in 14 countries this week, including the U.S., U.K., Italy, France, Germany, Ireland and Mexico. The chart triumph — and a possible #2 debut next week on the <I>Billboard</i> albums tally — came despite a rash of negative or <a href="/news/articles/1678050/lana-del-rey-album-born-to-die-reviews.jhtml">middling reviews</a>
of the album as well as the continuing fallout from her shaky <a href="/news/articles/1677389/lana-del-rey-snl.jhtml">"Saturday Night Live"</a>
debut last month. The haterade has gotten her label boss, Interscope's Jimmy Iovine, to chime in on the flack his latest protégé has been taking. "It's a drag," Iovine told <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/lana-del-rey-backlash-jimmy-iovine-286378" target="_blank"><I>The Hollywood Reporter</I></a>. "Maybe this is a new sport. It's something we've never seen before. Or maybe it's [like] the Giants and the Jets." Del Rey herself told <I>Rolling Stone</I> that she thought she looked "beautiful" and sang "fine" on the show, saying that "that's just the way I perform, and my fans know that." Say what you want about Del Rey's looks, attitude and performance ability, but Iovine said there is one thing you can't mess with. Musically, he thinks <I>Die</I> is "really good. Great lyrics and great songs. I don't care what anybody says, 'Video Games' is a great song. When she sings that song, it moves me. It's how we signed her — she sang and it was beautiful. I think she's really talented. Period."</p>

Grammys Flashback: That Happened Last Year
February 19th, 2012 From Lady Gaga’s egg to Katy Perry’s wedding video, plenty of crazy went down at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards.
By John Mitchell
Lady Gaga arrives at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards

<P>The 54th annual <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys/">Grammy Awards</a> are just a day away and everyone in the MTV Newsroom is starting to get excited. Will <a href="/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé"</a> show up? How will <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a> sound in her first major live performance since undergoing surgery to repair a vocal cord hemorrhage? What color will <a href="/music/artist/perry_katy/artist.jhtml">Katy Perry"</a>'s hair be? What will <a href="/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga"</a> wear? We can't wait to find out. But if last year's show is any indication, it's safe to say that just about anything could happen at Los Angeles' Staples Center on Sunday night. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:621416.id:1657665" width="240" height="211"></div><p> The quirk factor was high at <a href="/news/articles/1657879/grammy-awards-arcade-fire-lady-antebellum.jhtml">last year's Grammys</a>, and it got started long before a single award was handed out. Lady Gaga's red carpet arrival inside of a pearlescent egg carried by four scantily clad dudes wearing prosthetics on their faces and shoulders should have been reminder enough that the unusual is the norm at the Grammys. But in case it wasn't, the show itself delivered Muppets and Katy Perry on a swing. We've rounded up five big moments from last year's show to remind you why the Grammys are the craziest awards show of the year. <b>» Lady Gaga arrives in that freakin' egg, er, "vessel."</b><br> Never one to just casually stroll the red carpet in a pretty dress, Lady Gaga went to great lengths to make every element of her Grammy appearance part of a larger art piece that culminated in the performance of her then-new single "Born this Way." It all started on the red carpet, when she arrived already inside her <a href="/news/articles/1657833/lady-gaga-grammy-arrival-egg.jhtml">"vessel,"</a> later claiming to Jay Leno that she'd been in a state of artistic incubation inside it for 72 hours. (Did you just roll your eyes? We think you just rolled your eyes!) The pop star emerged to deliver a full-voiced — if otherwise joyless — performance of the song, which at the time was drawing <a href="http://www.popeater.com/2011/02/11/lady-gaga-born-this-way-madonna-express-yourself/" target="_blank">heavy criticism</a> for sounding maybe a little <i>too</i> much like <a href="/news/articles/1657803/lady-gaga-born-this-way-madonna.jhtml">Madonna's 1989 classic "Express Yourself,"</a> and went on to score three Grammys, including Best Pop Vocal Album for <i>The Fame Monster</i>. <b>» Did Christina Aguilera fall down after that showstopping Aretha Franklin tribute?</b><br> Last year's ceremony kicked off with an <a href="/news/articles/1657852/christina-aguilera-jennifer-hudson-aretha-franklin-grammy-tribute.jhtml">Aretha Franklin tribute</a> featuring Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Florence Welch, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams. The ladies delivered a rousing group performance of "(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman" before launching into solos of "Ain't No Way," "Until You Come Back to Me," "Think," "Respect" and "Spirit in the Dark" and closing with "Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves" — tearing the roof off the Staples Center. Except all anyone wanted to talk about afterward was how Christina maybe slipped a little in her towering heels. The performance came just one week after Xtina botched "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Super Bowl XLV (luckily, <a href="/news/articles/1678621/kelly-clarkson-national-anthem-super-bowl-46.jhtml">Kelly Clarkson's rendition</a> this year went smoothly), and it seemed like the "Beautiful" singer and "Voice" judge had fully redeemed herself after the debacle, delivering a fantastic vocal performance … until she stumbled onstage, sending <a href="http://www.popeater.com/2011/02/14/christina-aguilera-grammys-stumble/" target="_blank">gossips</a> into a tizzy that the singer may have been, we'll say, out of sorts during the performance despite much evidence to the contrary. Or maybe people just like a good near-fall? People get very excited when an entertainer loses her footing — <a href="/news/articles/1678570/madonna-super-bowl-halftime-fumbles.jhtml">don't they, Madonna?</a> Anyway, while everyone tried to make Xtina's mini-tumble a bigger story than it was, the ladies earned a richly deserved standing ovation for their tribute to Franklin, who was rather ill at the time but has since recovered, lost a bunch of weight, gotten engaged and ended that engagement. (A year in Hollywood time is like five years in normal person time … maybe that's why everyone is so afraid of getting older!) <b>» Bieber performs big, loses Best New Artist to unknown jazz bassist and vocalist Esperanza Spalding.</b><br> Justin Bieber's medley performance began with an acoustic strum through "Baby" but quickly segued into a raucous take on "Never Say Never," complete with breakdancing ninja acrobats, fire breathers and a cameo rap by "Karate Kid" star Jaden Smith. Biebs' mentor Usher even joined in on the fun for a pop-and-lock-heavy dance-off to his hit "OMG." But the <i>real</i> story with Bieber at last year's Grammys was that he lost. To Esperanza Spalding. A critically acclaimed but otherwise unknown jazz performer. Bieber didn't take the loss so well but his fans went even crazier, expressing the profound sadness they felt and bearing witness to their idol's defeat by hacking Spalding's Wikipedia page and changing her middle name to both "Justin" and "Quesadilla." One <a href="http://www.popeater.com/2011/02/14/esperanza-spalding-justin-bieber/" target="_blank">fan wrote</a>, "Justin Bieber deserved it go die in a hole. Who the heck are you anyway?" while another scribbled, "So the Esperanza Spalding has only 8 thousand followers on twitter and how many does Justin Bieber has?" It seems someone forgot to tell the Belieber army that the Grammys are not a popularity contest (well, they're not <i>supposed</i> to be, anyway) and that one's amount of Twitter followers is not taken into account when deciding the winners. Duly noted! <b>» Katy Perry performed the ballad "Not Like the Movies" while on a swing, playing video from her wedding to Russell Brand.</b><br> If you needed further proof that <i>a lot</i> can change in just a single year, look no further than Katy Perry's performance at last year's ceremony. Much like she did on her California Dreams Tour, Perry performed her ballad "Not Like the Movies" while sitting on a swing as video from her elaborate <a href="/news/articles/1657862/katy-perry-grammy-performance.jhtml">October 2010 wedding to Russell Brand</a> was projected behind her. Though one would think a sweet performance like Katy's would shut the gossip mill down for at least a little while, the couple was already back to defending their strange union less than two months later when Brand co-hosted "Live!" with Kelly Ripa. By year's end, Perry and Brand's marriage was <a href="/news/articles/1676630/russell-brand-katy-perry-divorce.jhtml">officially no more</a>, and it made re-watching her performance from last year for the purposes of this article, um, kind of awkward. <b>» Cee Lo performed "Forget You" with a bunch of Muppets (and Gwyneth Paltrow). </b><br> No, no one at your Grammy party spiked your drink. Cee Lo Green, wearing a crazy red bear suit and a rainbow fan of feathers (think peacock), really did perform his Grammy-nominated smash <a href="/news/articles/1657860/cee-lo-gwyneth-paltrow-grammy-performance.jhtml">"Forget You"</a> backed by a bunch of singing and dancing Muppets while Oscar-winning home health guru Gwyneth Paltrow writhed atop his piano. Oddly, the whole thing worked like gangbusters and was a big old ball of fun. (And when was the last time anyone associated the word "fun" with Gwyneth Paltrow? Such is the funky power of Cee Lo.) This year's show has the potential to outdo last year's in the water-cooler department with Rihanna and Chris Brown both set to perform under the same roof for the first time since, well, you know … in addition to plenty of interesting collabos, including a special electronic dance music performance set to feature the Foo Fighters (right?), and whatever Lady Gaga decides to get into. <i>What are you most looking forward to at this year's Grammys? Let us know in the comments below.</i> <b>Chaos! Profanity! Wardrobe malfunctions! Luda, who dropped his <a href="/news/articles/1674369/ludacris-1.21-gigawatts-mixtape.jhtml"><i>1.21 Gigawatts</i> mixtape</a> in November, also revealed one big-time guest on the LP. "<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> is one person that I've already worked with," he said. "In terms of other artists, you can say that there's going to be a lot of surprises on here." <center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:711235/cp~id%3D1674412%26vid%3D711235%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A711235" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center> The pair already have a few collaborations under their belt. Who can forget Usher's inescapable smash "Yeah!" from his 2004 <i>Confessions</i> album? The two also hooked up on Lil Jon's "Lovers and Friends" in the same year and then again two years ago on Usher's "She Don't Know." As far as what the two have cooked up for <i>Ludaversal,</i> fans will just have to wait and see. Throughout his career, Luda has shown a ton of versatility. An undeniable hitmaker, at times the nimble-tongued lyricist has been comical (2001's "Area Codes" and 2004's "Number One Spot") and in other instances delivered healthy amounts of substance (2006's "Runaway Love" and 2008's "Do the Right Thing"). For <i>Ludaversal,</i> he will get a little personal. "It's been a minute since I've been away from music, and there is just so much to talk about," he said. "So [the album] is mostly about my personal life, my travels, my experiences, rumors, gossip — you know, everything coming together in one." <i>What are your expectations for Ludacris' new album? Tell us in the comments!</i></p>

<P>Maybe <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>' lucky number is 30. The singer turned 30 this year, marking the landmark birthday on December 2 with a fan-voted MTV News tournament that crowned <a href="/news/articles/1675289/britney-spears-tournament-winner-30th-birthday.jhtml">the Best Britney Video of All Time</a>. But her 30th year also proved to be an incredibly successful period in her career. <center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:720934/cp~vid%3D720934%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A720934" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center> For the first time in a while, she seemed comfortable being the pop megastar that she is. More than a decade into her career, Spears re-emerged as a <a href="/news/articles/1675474/britney-spears-femme-fatale-favorite-album.jhtml"><i>Femme Fatale,</i></a> giving fans a fist-pumping album, embarking on a flashy tour and dropping more memorable music videos. Britney Spears fandom was reenergized as the singer came out of her shell, opening up about this phase in her career as well her personal life in several high-profile interviews. So it's probably not surprising that Spears will cap off the year at #4 on MTV News' <a href="/news/articles/1676177/newsmakers-2011-lady-gaga-amy-winehouse.jhtml">Top Newsmakers of 2011</a> list, just behind Lil Wayne. "When I was younger, I was busy, busy, and I was always singing and dancing all the time. I was just really creative," she recalled in the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/news/638813/britney-hits-the-studio-with-william.jhtml#id=166112">MTV special "I Am the Femme Fatale."</a> "That's when my mom realized I'm a really creative person." She let that creativity shine over the past 12 months. From <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/britney-spears/624145/hold-it-against-me.jhtml#artist=501686">"Hold It Against Me"</a> to <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/britney-spears/639722/till-the-world-ends.jhtml#artist=501686">"Till the World Ends"</a> to her Chris Marrs Piliero-directed "I Wanna Go" and "Criminal," Britney made headlines every time she dropped a music video. But no vid stirred up as much controversy as her <a href="/news/articles/1672795/britney-spears-criminal-video-director.jhtml">"Criminal" clip</a>, which featured real-life boyfriend <a href="/news/articles/1676120/britney-spears-is-engaged.jhtml">(now fiancé) Jason Trawick</a> — and his abs. "At the end of the day, Jason killed it," Piliero told MTV News of Trawick's cameo. "That was one of those things I was really stoked [about], as much as I went into it like, 'Wow, he's not an actor. This is going to be interesting,' but I really do like a challenge, and I really do like the idea that I'm a director and my job is to direct and get the performance. For me, it was a fun challenge to be like, 'I'm gonna make sure that you are awesome,' and he was." Between video shoots, Spears hit the road with <a href="/news/articles/1668836/nicki-minaj-britney-spears-tour.jhtml">the likes of Nicki Minaj</a>, Joe Jonas, and DJ Pauly D. Spears fully embraced her sensuality on the <i>Femme Fatale</i> Tour, a spectacular show full of costume changes, elaborate stage setups and stunning mini-films. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:638813.id:1661123" width="240" height="211"></div><p> And while much of the 2011 VMA buzz was about <a href="/news/articles/1669849/beyonce-pregnant-vmas.jhtml">Beyoncé's baby bump</a> and <a href="/news/articles/1669843/lady-gaga-you-and-i-video-music-awards-performance.jhtml">Jo Calderone</a>, Spears stole the spotlight by walking away with a Moonman for Best Pop Video and the prized <a href="/news/articles/1669873/britney-spears-vma-tribute.jhtml">Video Vanguard Award</a>. She also had tongues wagging after an onstage kiss from Jo (a.k.a. Lady Gaga), just before she was honored with an electrifying dance tribute that highlighted some of biggest career moments. "It was really crazy. I had no idea what to expect," Spears told us backstage at the VMAs. "The kids were amazing and so entertaining, and it was a really fun night. It was really cool. I was like, 'Wow, that's really sweet!' " As 2011 came to a close, Spears wrapped up her tour, and MTV News threw her a birthday bash in the form of the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/content/news/2011/britney30/index.jhtml">"30 Videos for 30 Years"</a> tournament. The competition was heated but in the end, Spears' iconic "I'm a Slave 4 U" took home the prize. And just when it seemed things couldn't get any better, <a href="/news/articles/1676167/britney-spears-jason-trawick-engaged-timeline.jhtml">Britney confirmed she was engaged</a> to Trawick after dating for two years. She showed off her Neil Lane ring during a celebratory weekend in Las Vegas. <b>MTV continues our <a href="http://www.mtv.com/specials/best_of/">Best of 2011</a> coverage by looking back at the biggest pop-culture stories of the year. "This song 'All Aboard,' that tune allowed me to expand and kind of offer my audience something totally different because it's not bachata — I'm singing English and that was really fun," Santos recently told MTV News. "I was a little nervous about that, but people actually really accepted it." Santos and Weezy recently shot the video for "All Aboard" in Miami; he called the clip "sexy," "seductive" and "elegant," but also revealed that this collaboration came very close to not making his album. "I was just like, I like the song but it's missing something, and at first I couldn't figure out what it was," Santos said. "What we did was we left 16 bars open, and I was like, you know, who would rip this track? Lil Wayne. So we reached out. It barely made the album because he's a busy dude, so he actually got on the record two months after we submitted it. It was like, if we don't get his vocals in the next two days we hit, and we got it, so we made it and the song is just really great." Wayne isn't the only artist Santos pulled in for his album. On his last single, "Promise," he teamed up with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a>, who last week joined him onstage at <a href="/news/articles/1678993/romeo-santos-solo-tour.jhtml">Santos' first of three sold-out shows</a> at New York's Madison Square Garden. February 17th, 2012‘Having blockbusters in your life is never a bad thing,’ he says at press conference.

Robert Pattinson appeared at the Berlin International Film Festival on Friday (February 17) to promote his latest effort, the big-screen adaptation of the Guy de Maupassant novel “Bel Ami.” During the press conference, the actor opened up about making the film, which follows a manipulative young man who romances various women in 19th-century Paris.
“To work as a journalist? It’s funny. I kind of like the idea, especially when he gets into the gossip section of the newspaper,” the actor said about his character’s job in the flick and how he related it to his own headline-making life.
Click for photos of Robert Pattinson at the “Bel Ami” event in Berlin.
“Something that was written in … 1885, for it to be the exact same situation as it is now, where you have a template article and you just replace the name and it could be about anybody, I thought that was really funny. But he’s not really a journalist. … It’s basically like being a reality TV star now,” he said. “It was one of the jobs where you could kind of [get ahead]; he found a loophole in life where he could get money and a reputation by basically doing nothing. It was fun; it was interesting.”
As for the film, Pattinson said that he agreed to do it because he thought he might never get the chance to play a character like that again. “It’s funny, the structure of ‘Bel Ami’ and the character of Georges really rarely comes up in movies anymore because he’s completely unrepentant, and normally a movie has to teach somebody a lesson nowadays. It was quite fun playing that,” he said. “They both have their good sides.”
He added that when he first read the script, he related to Georges’ motivations. “I read the script a long time ago. I was pretty young. I think I’ve changed a little bit,” the actor said. “I kind of understood that. You create an empire just so you can sh– on someone else. I think I’ve grown up a little bit. I’m not as horrible.”
The film is much different in tone than “Twilight,” and Pattinson addressed any concerns he might have about bringing that audience along to this film, which opens in March.
“I guess my responsibility, I think, it’s not necessarily to give anything back other than try and do the best work you can. You get an audience for doing certain jobs, so I think the biggest disservice you can do to your audience is trying to repeat the same thing and to come just to get money or whatever,” he said. “If a ‘Twilight’ audience would come watch ‘Bel Ami,’ it’s a movie that I wouldn’t have thought that audience would go to, so I think that in some way, it’s kind of doing a service to someone. I felt like I learned a lot from it.”
Pattinson spoke about balancing smaller films with big ones like “Twilight.” “Having blockbusters in your life is never a bad thing,” he said. “When you’re making it, if everyone is expecting it to be a blockbuster, it’s kind of lame.”

<P>Britney Spears spent the weekend celebrating her <a href="/news/articles/1676120/britney-spears-is-engaged.jhtml">engagement to Jason Trawick</a> in Las Vegas with friends and family. On Friday, hours after the news of their impending marriage was confirmed, the singer took to her Facebook page to make it official, changing her <a href="https://www.facebook.com/britney" target="_blank">relationship status</a> to "engaged." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:720382" width="240" height="211"></div><p> She also shared with her fans on Twitter just how excited she is to be tying the knot with longtime boyfriend Trawick. "Still glowing!" she <a href="http://twitter.com/britneyspears" target="_blank">wrote</a>. "About to jump on a plane to Planet Hollywood in Vegas. Throwing a Bday Party for Jason at Chateau Night Club. So fun. Xxoo. And celebrate they did. <a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20554744,00.html" target="_blank">People.com</a> reported that the couple and her two sons checked into Planet Hollywood before making their first public appearance since the news broke. Spears rocked not only a body-hugging Hervé Léger bandage dress, but also her Neil Lane engagement ring. The couple shared dinner and dancing at two Sin City hotspots, Sugar Factory's Chocolate Lounge and Paris' Chateau Nightclub. "Tonight was one of the most magical nights of my life," she later wrote on Twitter. "Such an amazing time with my new fiance and our closest friends and family. #Blessed" While Spears was celebrating, her ex-husband Kevin Federline sent out his well-wishes. "I'm really happy for her — I think he's a great guy," he told <a href="http://tvweek.ninemsn.com.au/blog.aspx?blogentryid=963715&showcomments=true" target="_blank"><i>TV Week</i> magazine</a> while filming the reality show "Excess Baggage" in Australia. "She's happy; she's doing really well. I want to say she's in a good place. I haven't spoken to her much since I've been over here, both of us have been busy with her being on tour, but I do know from talking to the kids and talking to the kids' teachers that they're doing really good. Michael Bay To Direct ‘Transformers 4,’ Producer Confirms
February 15th, 2012The fourth film, which will be released in summer of 2014, will be ‘an evolution,’ Lorenzo di Bonaventura tells MTV News.

Since late last year, rumors began firing off about a potential “Transformers” sequel or sequels, and they ran the gamut. Paramount might film two sequels back to back. Michael Bay might return for both. Jason Statham may be the new star. Rumors came and went, but perhaps the biggest question lingered: Will Bay return to direct?
The master of the big-budget explosion, Bay’s highly stylized eye for action lent the trilogy its signature look and breakneck pace. With potential sequels looming, no word had been given on whether Bay would return for any follow-ups.
But at Toy Fair 2012, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed to MTV News that Bay would, indeed, return for a fourth “Transformers” film. “Michael’s going to direct, and it’ll be in the summer of 2014. We’ll be releasing then,” di Bonaventura said.
Di Bonaventura said that the director is eager to get back to the franchise he started. “He’s a cool customer. He’s excited,” he said. “I think the challenge there is that we are really going to do a reboot and what that’s going to be, we don’t even know yet.” Bay will reportedly film the next “Transformers” after making “Pain and Gain,” which has Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg circling major roles.
As for the Jason Statham rumors, di Bonaventura said that it is way too early in the process to decide something like casting. “No, it’s so silly. We have to get a story first,” he said. “You can’t pick characters if you don’t have a story.”
With the series heading in the direction of a reboot, many new questions form about which characters and storylines will return. Di Bonaventura insisted that the fourth film will not be a hard reboot, but an “evolution.”
“Again, it’s a hybrid because it’s a funny thing. I’m not involved with ‘Spider-Man,’ but what I perceive ‘Spider-Man’ to be is just a redoing of the whole thing. It’s not. It’s an evolution. There’s still continuity that’s going on, yet there will be a lot of new cast,” he said. “Whether there’s anybody from the first cast, we don’t even know yet. The trust is it’s going to be a whole new story. The characters that would certainly come along are Optimus and Bumblebee, I’m sure.”

Rebecca Romijn Covers Fitness March 2012
February 14th, 2012Bringing her svelte ‘n sexy figure to the forefront, Rebecca Romijn looks picture perfect on the cover of the March 2012 issue of Fitness.
The 39-year-old mother of twins posed in her bikini for the Brian Bowen Smith shot spread lining the magazine’s pages while opening up about topics such as her diet challenges and shedding baby weight after giving birth to Dolly and Charlie back in December 2008.
Highlights from Rebecca’s interview are as follows. For more, be sure to pay a visit to Fitness!
On losing weight after having twins:
?Losing that weight was probably the hardest thing I?ve ever done in my life. I had to change the way I worked out, the way I ate ? everything. Everything I did before I got pregnant ? like Pilates, which I had done for about 14 years ? didn?t work anymore. I had to find a completely different way to challenge my body.?
On mixing it up:
?A friend suggested I try Bikram yoga. At first the idea of doing a 90-minute workout in a 105-degree room sounded like torture. But the sweating is exactly what I became addicted to. My body changed dramatically almost immediately. Within three classes I noticed less belly fat. My knees and legs are stronger than ever now; my arms have definition for the first time in my life; and my posture is much, much better. I also feel completely energized from all of the deep breathing. I leave class relieved of any anxiety I went in with, and the sweating and detoxifying make my skin feel great. I can?t recommend it enough.?
On her diet challenges:
?Every meal with Jerry [O'Connell] includes wine and dessert, which I love. Before we had kids, I gained weight from eating like that. But I was happy and in love, and my clothes still fit. Jerry liked how I looked. He?s very much a ?there?s more to hold on to? kind of guy.?
On that nasty thing called mom guilt:
?That?s been a huge challenge since I became a mom. Mother?s guilt is no joke! I feel it every time I leave them to go exercise. Now that the girls are in preschool, it?s easier. I go as soon as I drop them off at school. As a mom it?s very important to take care of yourself physically and mentally. You?re no good to anyone unless you do. There are days when I rush out to a yoga class just as I?m starting to feel like I might be losing my mind.?

February 14th, 2012On the day after the legendary Whitney Houston passed away, there was certainly a dark cloud hanging over the Staples Center where the 54th Annual Grammy Awards took place tonight. <P>Are you ready for another <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/ludacris/artist.jhtml">Ludacris</a> album? It's been two years since 'Cris dropped his last album, <i>Battle of the Sexes,</i> and the Atlanta MC estimates that his next one will hit stores this spring. "I get the beats together and I put out my ideas, so I'd say we're maybe about 40 percent done," the rapper told <a href="http://www.billboard.com/column/the-juice/ludacris-eyes-spring-ludaversal-release-1005831952.story#/column/the-juice/ludacris-eyes-spring-ludaversal-release-1005831952.story" target="_blank"><i>Billboard</i></a> of his upcoming eighth LP, <i>Ludaversal,</i> which he anticipates will be out around May with a first single dropping in March.

February 11th, 2012‘Spider-Man’ Star Andrew Garfield Reveals Spidey ‘Shrine’
February 11th, 2012‘I did try to look at every single thing that exists,’ he tells MTV News of his research for the role.

Most Spider-Man fans would agree that the man who plays the iconic hero should be a fan. In that respect, Andrew Garfield fits the bill perfectly.
When Garfield spoke with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz before a screening event for fans, he explained his process of tackling the role for “The Amazing Spider-Man,” and it involved lots and lots of comic books. “I did try to look at every single thing that exists. That is impossible, I discovered, but I did my best,” he said.
But naturally, as a fan, there would be certain incarnations of the web-slinger that resonated with Garfield and helped him conceive his take on Spider-Man. For Garfield, those insights came from many different comic book sources. “There were certain things that I loved for his physicality. There were certain things that I loved for his wit. There were certain incarnations that I loved for his body type,” Garfield said. “The Ultimates, I love the body type in the Ultimates and his physicality in the Ultimates, but I also love the artwork in the ‘Torment’ series, the [Todd] McFarlane series.”
Once those pieces were found, it was a matter of stringing them all together into an in-depth conception of the superhero. Garfield and his stunt team attempted to go through every level of Peter Parker’s life and think of the implications of his powers.
“Me and the stunt boys, we created a room where we just had a shrine to everything Spidey and to everything Peter Parker, because we wanted to make sure the physical language wasn’t just a guy in a suit being a guy in a suit and throwing punches and throwing kicks,” he said. “We didn’t want it to be Jason Statham in a suit. We wanted it to be a half-spider, half-boy, who has spider DNA running around his blood system.”
To realistically pull this off, the team went step-by-step to imagine how Spider-Man would realistically act, something necessary for bringing him to the big screen. “We wanted to understand deeply what that meant in terms of how he moves, in terms of skin sensitivity, in terms of his abilities of awareness. Imagine if he had six eyes. Imagine if he had more legs and what that means, not just within the suit but in day-to-day life,” Garfield said. “He can eat Chinese takeout with his feet, while he’s also writing a note, while texting with his shoulder. What does that mean? We tried to approach it from as organic a place as possible.”
Check out everything we’ve got on “The Amazing Spider-Man.”

February 10th, 2012She’s the talk of the town ahead of her stage return this weekend at the GRAMMY Awards, and Adele sat down for a conversation with Anderson Cooper as part of CBS’ “60 Minutes”.

Of using the electronic devices to converse with others, Adele told, ?The great thing is I love to swear. Most of [the apps] you can?t swear on. But I found this one app where you can swear, so I?m still really getting my point across.?
As for the moment in which she knew she needed medical treatment, the Grammy nominee said, ?[It was} like someone put a curtain over my throat?and I could feel it. It felt like something popped in my throat.?
Then describing her operation, the 23-year-old explained, ?I had laser surgery. [They] put lasers down your throat, cut off the polyp and kind of laser your hemorrhage back together and fix it.”

Another day, another juicy segment of our interview with the cast of “The Hunger Games” to roll out and examine. Tuesday’s (February 7) installment has a slight caveat, however. For those who have yet to read Suzanne Collins’ book “Catching Fire” — the follow-up to “The Hunger Games” — please take this as a friendly warning that the proceeding comments from stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson veer heavily into spoiler territory for the tentatively planned big-screen sequel.
When MTV News caught up with Lawrence and Hutcherson recently, we asked them what they hope to see in a sequel. Lawrence quickly brought up a very big step in the relationship between Katniss and Peeta.
“We get married!” the actress exclaimed, looking at Hutcherson and pointing to her ring finger with girlish enthusiasm.
“[It's] very exciting,” Hutcherson said, though we detected a bit of hesitation in his voice.
Lawrence revealed that she did the “ring finger move” to Hutcherson whenever she wanted to annoy him on set. “God, I sound really annoying whenever I talk about myself in the past,” she admitted. The Oscar nominee then apologized to Hutcherson, who seemed genuinely entertained by her commentary.
Looking even further ahead, past “Catching Fire,” we asked about talk that the third book might be split into two films. “It’s always hard, every time you convert a novel into movies, because you have to cut so much out,” Lawrence said. “[So], in a weird way it’s kind of a relief because you get to keep everything in there. It is a lot more work [to shoot four films] and we’ll probably do them back-to-back.”
Finally, we asked the two stars if they had to play another “Hunger Games” character besides their own which they would choose.
“I would probably say President Snow,” Hutcherson said. “If I were President Snow, I could make some changes and give some power back to the people.”
“Well, now I’m left with a goat,” Jennifer joked of the dwindling character options. “Umm.”
“Effie has great style,” Hutcherson offered.
“Effie! That’s it,” Lawrence agreed about the pink-haired District 12 escort played by Elizabeth Banks. “God, yeah Effie. Thanks!”
Who would you have cast Jennifer and Josh as in “The Hunger Games,” besides Katniss and Peeta? Tell us in the comments!

<P>In a sea of A-list contributions for will.i.am's forthcoming solo album, the Black Eyed Peas mastermind recently dropped one name that will really get pop fans excited. Speaking with <a href="http://www.capitalfm.com/artists/william/news/britney-spears-alicia-keys-new-album/" target="_blank">Capital FM</a>, will teased that his <i>Femme Fatale</i> collaborator Britney Spears will make an appearance on the album, dubbed <i>#willpower.</i> </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:638813" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "I have a song with Alicia Keys — me, Alicia and Swedish House Mafia. I have a song with the Beats, which is pretty grand. Me and Shakira have been trying to finish the stuff we started, and me and Britney is really crazy," he said. "So we got a song with me, LMFAO and Eva Simons, a song with me and Busta Rhymes and Swizz Beatz — I got a whole other bunch of collaborations." Spears and will.i.am last worked together on "Big Fat Bass," a spacey, grinding party tune complete with clapping noises and some rapping from will himself. Their recording session was featured on the MTV special <a href="/news/articles/1660830/britney-spears-femme-fatale-previews.jhtml">"I Am the Femme Fatale."</a> There's been no word yet from will's camp about the song and whether this is a new track or if he will be including "Big Fat Bass" on the album. The rapper/producer's love for Brit is hardly anything new: He <a href="/news/articles/1662289/britney-spears-will-i-am-big-fat-bass.jhtml">gushed to MTV News about the pop princess</a> months after they recorded together. "[I discovered] her love for music. I never seen anyone, like, come alive, full of excitement and giggling and laughing behind the mic," will recalled to MTV News. "She was like a little kid when she was recording the song, and it just brought the whole atmosphere, it changed the whole atmosphere when someone really loves music. So it was great working with her." His latest single, "T.H.E (The Hardest Ever)," featuring Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger, dropped late last year. <i>#willpower,</i> which also features "X Factor" judge Nicole Scherzinger, will be released later this year. <i>What are you expecting from will and Brit's collabo? February 8th, 2012‘Ferris Bueller’ Super Bowl Ad: Pop-Culture Cheat Sheet
February 8th, 2012We take a closer look at the many references to ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ in Honda’s commercial.
By Eric Ditzian

Did you catch everything there was to see in the “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”-inspired Super Bowl ad? Perhaps there were some references you didn’t pick up, some callbacks that went unnoticed. Maybe you just want to go back and watch, again and again, what is sure to be one of the night’s most talked-about Super Bowl commercials.
So go right ahead with the help of MTV News’ pop-culture cheat sheet:
Sick phone call: In the movie, it was Ferris’ buddy, Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck), who picked up Ferris’ call to plead that he was too sick to leave his bed. In the ad, Ferris receives the call.
Walter Linder: His agent’s name in the commercial is the name written right above the name of Abe Froman — the sausage king of Chicago — at the restaurant Ferris and his pals crash.
Pencils and Wite-Out: Bored secretary Grace (Edie McClurg) spent much of the film sniffing Wite-Out and picking pencils out of her hair, so note the pencils and Wite-Out prominently displayed on Linder’s desk.
Baseball: The ball Broderick’s agent tosses in the air calls to mind both the ball Ferris caught at the Chicago Cubs game and the one he flung at his stereo to kill the fake snores at the film’s end as his parents approached his room.
Roeman, Peterson & Frye: The name of Linder’s agency, etched in glass on his door, is a reference not only to Froman, but to Cameron Frye and Ferris’ girlfriend, Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara).
“He bought it”: After Ferris successfully fools his parents, the first line he utters to camera, much like in the ad, is, “They bought it.” Later, he pops off another classic line referenced in the ad: “Incredible. One of the worst performances of my career, and they never doubted it for a second.”
Opening curtains: After Ferris successfully fools his parents, he thrusts open the curtains in his bedroom and wonders how he can be expected to go to school on such a gorgeous day.
Yello’s “Oh Yeah”: Though the song plays in the commercial as Ferris opens the curtains, it doesn’t play in the film until the first time we see the Frye family Ferrari.
Twisty towel: Both Ferris and Matthew’s preferred post-shower getup includes a robe and a twisty towel on the head.
“Broderick, Broderick”: A callback to one of the film’s most famous lines, in which Ferris’ dry-as-toast teacher (Ben Stein) takes attendance and, in a ridiculous monotone, says, “Bueller? Bueller?”
Rottweiler: The dog sitting by another Honda outside the hotel is a Rottweiler, the same breed of dog the Buellers own and which terrorized Principal Edward R. Rooney (Jeffrey Jones) as he attempts to bust Ferris.
Detroit Red Wings jersey: On the roller coaster, the man behind Ferris is wearing a Red Wings jersey, the same one worn by Cameron in the movie.
Grace: The woman who calls Broderick while in the Honda is named Grace, another reference to Ferris’ school secretary.
Exaggerated coughing: When Broderick coughs loudly while on the car phone, we thought back to the call Ferris made to some high school freshmen, during which he used a keyboard sound effect to make it seem like he was literally coughing up a lung.
Who’s in the driver’s seat?: As Broderick pulls up to a stop in his car, he discovers he is right next to Linder. He quickly hides behind a stuffed panda. In the film, Ferris finds himself stuck in traffic right next to his dad and switches places with Sloane.
Trench coat and clarinet: Look closely during this scene and you’ll see a man playing the instrument, a nifty callback to Ferris’ activities early in the movie.
SOCHOIC: Broderick’s license plate refers to the way Ferris describes the Ferrari: “It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.”
Natural History Museum: Instead of attending the Art Institute of Chicago as in the movie, Broderick checks out the history museum. Instead of walking hand in hand with kids, he chases them.
The walrus: Two references in one. First off, Ferris shouts out John Lennon early in the film, saying, “He was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I’d still have to bum rides off people.” Secondly, the staring contest with the animal riffs on Cameron’s deep gaze into “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” Georges Seurat’s pointillist masterpiece.
Horse race: In the film, Ferris checked out a Cubs game. In the ad, Broderick opts for a horse race.
Chinese parade: Whereas Ferris rocked a parade in downtown Chicago, belting out “Twist and Shout” and “Danke Schoen,” this time around, he crashes a Chinese parade.
The valet: Call us crazy, but the way that valet shadily looked at Broderick, we were thinking back to the garage attendant who told Ferris to relax, because he was a professional, yet took the Ferrari on a joy ride. In the ad, the valet soon peels away from the curb and is seen racing the car off a jump.
“Life moves pretty fast”: Indeed, Broderick will say it again, as he did twice during the film itself: “If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
What “Ferris Bueller” references did we miss? Let us know in the comments!

<P>Even a dozen years removed from the White House, former president <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/clinton_bill/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Bill Clinton</a> still has that same superstar-attracting aura. That might explain why such bright lights as <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Lady Gaga</a>, Bono and The Edge of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/u2/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">U2</a>, and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Usher</a> have signed on to perform at an October 15 party for <a href="http://www.clintonconcert.com/" target="_blank">Clinton</a> at the Hollywood Bowl. According to <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/u2-lady-gaga-usher-headline-234222" target="_blank"><i>The Hollywood Reporter</a>,</i> details on the final list of performers and presenters are still being worked on, but an impressive list of movie and TV personalities are expected to sign on for the event, which is being billed as a celebration of the 10-year anniversary of Clinton's nonprofit William J. Clinton Foundation. To date, the foundation has raised more than $10 billion for some of the ex-president's most cherished causes, including HIV/AIDS treatment, economic empowerment, food aid and global health initiatives. The show, which will also serve as a birthday party celebration for the former Democratic leader (who turned 65 on August 19), will be broadcast exclusively by Yahoo, which will stream "A Decade of Difference: A Concert Celebrating 10 Years of the William J. Clinton Foundation" worldwide to a potential audience of millions. Clinton continues to travel the world doing good works, though he turned his attention homeward over the weekend when he participated in the 10th anniversary ceremonies of the September 11 terror attacks. He announced on Sunday that he will team with Republican House Speaker John Boehner in a bipartisan effort to raise the final $10 million needed to complete the Fight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.</p>

‘Hunger Games’ Inspires Hope
February 8th, 2012Plus, Daniel Radcliffe makes good, ‘Star Wars’ returns in 3-D and Nic Cage is still awesome.

If you’re anything like all of us at MTV News, you’re curious as hell about whether “The Hunger Games” is going to translate into the big-screen spectacle we all know, believe or hope it can be. The tagline for the film is “The world will be watching,” and that’s certainly the hope Lionsgate has for their potential four-movie (yes, dividing the last book into two films has been discussed) franchise.
We’re less than two months away from the film’s release (March 23 to be precise), and I have found myself caught up in all the pre-release hype. I remember talking to Katniss candidates almost exactly a year ago (don’t cry for Hailee Steinfeld: She’s shooting “Romeo & Juliet”; she’ll be fine). And just last month, I sat down with the entire cast of the film to finally talk about what they shot, the huge expectations and more.
Last week, we rolled out my interview with Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, and I know a lot of fans were thrilled to see how close the two clearly are. Of course, whether that translates into “chemistry” onscreen, well, that’s a question for late March. This Thursday, by the way, you’ll get a chance to see my full sit-down with the director of the film, Gary Ross. Frankly, Ross is the primary reason “The Hunger Games” is something I have legitimately high expectations for. Just a quick glance at his résumé as a writer (“Big,” “Dave”) and director (one of my favorites, “Pleasantville”) should raise anyone’s hopes for this big-screen translation.
ODDS & ENDS
The boy who lived lives on: It’s perhaps a little odd to wish good fortune for a multimillionaire who’s had as much success as Daniel Radcliffe has experienced in his young life, but I have to say I’m happy for the solid job he did in “The Woman in Black” and the fact that it attracted a decent audience (commensurate to its modest budget) in its opening weekend. If there’s any guy who could sit back and do nothing, it’s Dan, but he kicked ass on Broadway last year, and 2012 is off to a fine start for him. He’s soon tackling Allen Ginsberg in a small indie as well. A fine start to phase two of his career.
Double-sided lightsabers are always cool: I don’t care if you all think I’m crazy: I will be seeing “The Phantom Menace” when it comes out this Friday. Frankly, I don’t really care about the 3-D. I just want to see a Star Wars film on the big screen again, and for all of its flaws, there’s plenty to love in “Episode I.” Hate Jar Jar all you want. You were dying inside the first time you saw that climactic lightsaber duel too. Was that just me? Really?
Watch “Bad Lieutenant” again: I’ve got Nic Cage on my interview docket this week, which means I will be seeing the first film in which a superhero urinates fire quite soon. And, yes, I’m looking forward to it.
Have any questions for the awesomely eccentric Mr. Cage? Send them my way to @JoshuaHorowitz.
Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.”

On Thursday (January 19), <a href="http://www.glaad.org/mediaawards" target="_blank">GLAAD announced their nominees</a> for the annual awards, which "recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:683386.id:1669247" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Previous GLAAD Award winner Lady Gaga is up for Outstanding Music Artist along with "The Voice" contestant Beverly McClellan, Girl in a Coma, Hunx and His Punx, and MEN. "Pretty Little Liars," which features a lesbian character, will face off against "Degrassi," "Grey's Anatomy," "Shameless" and "Torchwood: Miracle Day" for Outstanding Drama Series. On the comedy side of the TV spectrum, Golden Globe winner "Modern Family" will duke it out against "Glee," "Happy Endings," "The Big C" and "Exes and Ohs." Another "Glee"-related program, "The Glee Project," is up for Outstanding Reality Program along with "Dancing With the Stars," "Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys," "The Real L Word" and "The Voice" (which returns on February 5). "J. Edgar" has been recognized in the Outstanding Film – Wide Release category alongside "Albert Nobbs" and "Beginners." HBO's "Cinema Verite" is the only film up for Outstanding TV Movie or Mini-Series. "As media continue to tell new stories about LGBT people and families, a majority of Americans now support full equality of LGBT Americans," Mike Thompson, GLAAD's acting president, said in a statement about this year's nominees. "This year's nominees enlighten and entertain, while spotlighting the diversity of our community. Audiences expect to see their own worlds reflected in media, and today more than ever, those include the lives of LGBT people. Viewers know that LGBT characters and stories are simply natural extensions of, and glimpses into, their own experiences from across America." Three ceremonies will be held to hand out awards, in New York on March 24, Los Angeles on April 21 and San Francisco on June 2.</p>

Madonna Praises Lady Gaga’s ‘Rawness’
February 7th, 2012 Queen of Pop opens up about the Mother Monster on ‘The Graham Norton Show.’
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Here in the States, <a href="/news/articles/1677260/madonna-lady-gaga-born-this-way.jhtml">Madonna sat down with ABC News</a> and had some <i>interesting</i> comments about Lady Gaga. In another <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ukTFzM6Wfdg" target="_blank">interview</a>, on Friday's (January 13) <a href="http://www.bbcamerica.com/the-graham-norton-show/" target="_blank">"The Graham Norton Show,"</a> the singer seemed to take the high road and likened her early days of hustling in New York City to <a href="/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Gaga</a>'s beginnings. "When I first saw her, I saw her performing at a very small club in Manhattan a couple of years ago, maybe it was like three years ago," she said. "I was actually really impressed by her. I thought she was really cool and she did remind me of me back in the day. I liked her rawness and there was something fresh about there and ballsy, and when she spoke to the audience, she sounded like she had a similar sense of humor to me, quite ironic, and I liked her. So I do think she is very talented." That was really the end of the subject during their chat, other than when Madonna teased the British talk-show host about naming his dog after her. However, when he said his other dog was named Bailey, she quipped, "Not Gaga?" Some of that sentiment was mirrored in Madge's ABC interview, the rest of which airs on Friday's night's <i>20/20</i>. While she did call Gaga's "Born This Way" song "reductive" when asked about comparisons to her own "Express Yourself," she went on to say that she sees a lot of her own work in Gaga's. "I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well-done," she said, later adding that she thinks Gaga is "a very talented artist" and that she's making a "statement about taking something that was in the zeitgeist, you know, 20 years ago and turning it inside out and reinterpreting it." Madonna is currently making the rounds promoting her next album, <a href="/news/articles/1677103/madonna-album-mdna.jhtml"><i>M.D.N.A.,</i></a> as well as <a href="/news/articles/1674125/madonna-we-film-delayed.jhtml">her film "W.E."</a> <i>What do you think of Madonna's Gaga thoughts? Let us know in the comments!</i></p>

What Stories Will ‘Pop’ In 2012?
February 7th, 2012 From music to TV to celebrity babies, MTV News looks ahead to all of the big releases expected in the coming months.
By Jocelyn Vena
<P>It's a new year and that means that there's lots of ooey-gooey pop goodness all ready to pour out in 2012. Between celebrity babies, music and Hollywood, fans should gear up for some really big stuff in the coming year. But if history has taught us anything, as hard as we might plan, pop culture always has a way of sneaking up and surprising us. Not that we're complaining. So get your planners out: MTV News is looking ahead at what to expect in the world of <i>pop</i> culture. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:717202" width="240" height="211"></div><p> <b>Music</b><br> There are lots of big <a href="/news/articles/1676533/most-anticipated-albums-2012.jhtml">album releases</a> slated for 2012. Crossover queen <a href="/news/articles/1674880/nicki-minaj-pink-friday-roman-reloaded.jhtml">Nicki Minaj will release <i>Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded</i></a> just in time to show her Barbz and Kenz some love on Valentine's Day. <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/madonna/artist.jhtml">Madonna</a> already has confirmed that she will drop her next album come spring. Fans already got a taste of it when the single <a href="/news/articles/1676052/madonna-gimme-all-your-luvin-single.jhtml">"Gimme All Your Luvin' "</a> leaked on the Internet. "American Idol" alum Adam Lambert is readying the release of his next album, <i>Trespassing,</i> set to drop in March. Willow Smith's fans should whip their hair back and forth as the tween's long-simmering debut album, <i>Knees and Elbows,</i> will finally drop in April. <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> has teased his <a href="/news/articles/1675015/justin-bieber-new-album.jhtml"><i>Believe</i> album</a> for a summer release. He's shared that it will pick up where Justin Timberlake left off before he decided to focus on his acting. Basically, he's bringing sexy back. There are two forthcoming albums that don't have exact release dates but are highly anticipated nonetheless. <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> is already thinking about her next album and recently revealed to MTV News that she even has a title for her <a href="/news/articles/1675458/lady-gaga-next-album.jhtml"><i>Born This Way</i> follow-up</a> in mind. <a href="/news/articles/1672695/taylor-swift-acting-project.jhtml">Taylor Swift</a> is knee-deep in and working hard on her follow-up to her phenomenally successful <i>Speak Now</i>. <b>TV</b><br> In between pumping out tunes, some big shows will also return in 2012. Everything from "The Secret Circle" to "2 Broke Girls" to "New Girl" will be back for more fun come the new year. After a break, "Pretty Little Liars" will be back midseason. Will we finally find out who "A" is when season 2 resumes on January 2? Well, only that texting antagonist knows the answer. There are many other mysteries on "The Vampire Diaries" that will also have to be resolved once that show picks up again on January 5. And if all that drama is too much to handle, "Glee" will be back for more sing-along good times on January 17, with the <a href="/news/articles/1676521/glee-michael-jackson-tribute-set-list.jhtml">Michael Jackson tribute episode</a> airing one week later. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:722067" width="240" height="211"></div><p> <b>Celebrity Babies</b><br> 2012 is poised to be a big year for famous babies. OK, so 2011 saw Mariah Carey and Dem Babies, but some of the most famous ladies in La La Land and beyond will become first-time moms in the new year, giving MC and her family a run for their money. <a href="/news/articles/1669849/beyonce-pregnant-vmas.jhtml">Beyoncé and Jay-Z</a> will welcome their first child into the world any day now. The twosome revealed they were in the family way at the VMAs back in August. Jessica Simpson and her fiancé, Eric Johnson, will also welcome their first little bundle of joy. The news of the pregnancy came after a lot of speculation about <a href="/news/articles/1673485/jessica-simpson-pregnant.jhtml">Simpson's expanding midsection</a>. As it turns out, it's a big year for triple-threat moms-to-be, with <a href="/news/articles/1669038/hilary-duff-pregnant.jhtml">Hilary Duff</a> also expecting a baby come 2012.</p>

‘Before Watchmen’ Comic Books: Cash Grab Or Something More?
February 6th, 2012‘Talk Nerdy’ team debates the merits of more ‘Watchmen’ stories and breaks down this week’s box-office competitors ‘Chronicle’ and ‘Woman in Black.’
By Josh Wigler
“Before Watchmen” comic
Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures
After “Watchmen,” comic book fans were left under the impression that there would be no more stories featuring Rorschach, Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl and the rest of their morally ambiguous crime-fighting pals. But that was before “Before Watchmen.”
The announcement of new “Watchmen” comic books rocked the fan community to its core, and we’re dealing with the fallout in this week’s round of “Talk Nerdy” madness. Watch the episode below, and keep reading for further nerdiness!
Who Watches “Before Watchmen”?
Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ most popular characters are returning to the paneled page, but Moore and Gibbons are nowhere to be found. Instead, DC Comics has hired a crew consisting of Darwyn Cooke, Brian Azzarello, J. Michael Straczynski and others to spearhead “Before Watchmen,” a series of seven different comic book titles (each containing no fewer than four issues) debuting later this year. It’s a controversial decision to return to what many consider to be sacred material, sure, but in the eyes of the Nerds, it’s also a no-brainer: How do you turn down buckets filled with million-dollar bills, after all? Get their take on the news, plus some insight from MTV Geek‘s very own Valerie Gallaher.
Spidey Misses “The Avengers”
Elsewhere in the superhero space, rumors involving a possible Spider-Man cameo in “The Avengers” were officially shot down this week during a Twitter Q&A with director Joss Whedon. “There is no Spider-Man cameo,” he declared. “But the Avengers do turn off the dark.” Even with a fork in the rumors, the Nerdy crew couldn’t help but wonder about the possibilities of Spidey yukking it up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. See if they were for or against a visit from your friendly neighborhood web-head in your weekly dose of Nerdy.
Potter Wears “Black,” Heroes Get Chronicled
It continues to be an eventful year at the box office, with not one but two extremely geek-friendly movies hitting theaters this weekend. We’re talking, of course, about the Daniel Radcliffe-starring “Woman in Black” and the found-footage superhero film “Chronicle” from young director Josh Trank. But there’s another movie in the mix that one of our hosts wholeheartedly endorses, a decision so controversial, so outrageous, that his very Nerdy membership is now very much in jeopardy. Intrigued? Watch the episode to see more!

It's a good step in the right direction. I'm totally happy for her." And Federline doesn't seem to have any hard feelings toward Trawick. "He's a really good guy, I've heard a lot about him," he added. "I've spoken to him quite a few times as of now. He seems like a really good guy. The kids speak highly of him [and] her family loves him." <div style="background-color:#000000;width:428px;"><div style="padding:4px;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:702567/cp~id%3D1672881%26vid%3D702567%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A702567" width="420" height="236" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></div></div> <i>Share your well-wishes for Britney and Jason in the comments!</i></p>

Lady Gaga Opens Italian Restaurant With Her Dad
February 4th, 2012 Joanne Trattoria named in honor of her late aunt.

<P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Lady Gaga</a> is known for being ostentatious, outrageous and making the biggest entrance possible. But for a star that has made her name for shocking our senses, Mother Monster's newest venture is decidedly low-key. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="id:1669247" width="240" height="211"></div><p> After dropping several mentions in interviews over the past few months about a new restaurant she planned to launch with her father, Joseph Germanotta, Joanne Trattoria will finally open its doors on Wednesday. The modest Italian neighborhood eatery on West 68th Street in New York was described by <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/25/dining/lady-gagas-parents-to-open-joanne-trattoria.html?_r=2" target="_blank"><I>The New York Times</I></a> as having a "well-stocked bar, a cozy back patio and seating for about 70 people." The walls are covered with scenes of the Tuscan countryside, and near a fireplace at the entrance, diners will see some Germanotta family photos hanging by a front booth. The restaurant will be run by Joseph and Gaga's mother, Cynthia, and her proud pop admitted that his daughter "just generates a lot of sizzle," helping to get the word out about the venture. The chef and partner in the business is Art Smith, who met Gaga at a taping for the "Oprah Winfrey Show." Smith was Winfrey's personal chef for several years. The name was inspired by Joseph's late sister, Joanne, who died of lupus at age 19. Not only is "Joanne" Gaga's middle name, but in a number of interviews the singer has <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/10/31/lady-gaga-dad-joseph-restaurant-joanne/" target="_blank">opened up</a> about her strong connection with her late aunt. "I thought I was gonna die," she said last year. "I wanted to be the artists I loved, like Mick Jagger and Andy Warhol — and I thought the only way to do it was to live the lifestyle. But then I realized my father's sister Joanne, who'd died at 19, had instilled her spirit in me. She was a painter and a poet — and I had a spiritual vision I had to finish her business." The <I>Times</I> noted that Gaga is not officially a part-owner of the restaurant, which Joseph said the family could have afforded to open even if his daughter had not risen to global fame. It has long been his dream to open the eatery, he said, and visitors at Joanne will dine on "Southern Italian," given that Smith is from the South and the Germanottas are Italian. That means they will chow down on dishes such as "Papa G's chicken," traditional offerings like osso buco inspired by Joanne and "Cynthia's salad," named for Gaga's mother. Hoping to temper fans' expectations, Joseph said he wasn't sure if he'd post current pics of Gaga among the family photos. Maybe, he said, just an old one in which she's not as recognizable. And though he's happy to have his eldest get the word out about the family business, if fans make the trek expecting to see a trophy case with VMAs and Grammys, "It's not going to happen," he warned.</p></p>

But with this kind of reality show, anything can happen. Wes and Mandi are both strong competitors so I never really contemplated them going home on the second episode. But they did. <P><P>Welcome to 2012, the year that will either bring us <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_phenomenon" target="_blank">the end of civilization</a> as we know it or perhaps flying cars (finally!) Of course, between those two events, there's also going to be a presidential election, the London Olympics and that last "Twilight" movie (finally x 100!), not to mention a whole lot of activity within the lives of your favorite stars, too: Babies, weddings, honorary doctorates in nanotechnology; <i>this</i> is the year it'll all happen. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:722495.id:1672369" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Which is why, with the new year upon us, I've decided to get my <a href="http://www.amazingkreskin.com/" target="_blank">Kreskin</a> on with these predictions for 2012. Don't ask me to gaze deep into my crystal ball and try to foresee who'll win the White House or the World Series, because, seriously, if I knew that, don't you think I'd be wagering right now? Instead, I'm tackling the <i>important</i> topics. Here's my 2012 forecast for the Beyoncés and Britneys of the world … partly cloudy, with a zero-percent chance of accuracy. » <a href="/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a> and <a href="/music/artist/jay_z/artist.jhtml">Jay-Z</a> will welcome a daughter, who, upon her, uh, <i>release,</i> will also release her debut single, "Run the World (Me)." » <a href="/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a> will win every single Grammy, including a stunning upset of <i>Eres Un Farsante</i> in the Best Regional Mexican Or Tejano Album category. » <a href="/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> and Jason Trawick will tie the knot in an elaborate, multi-denominational ceremony held — eh, I don't even care enough to finish this one. » <a href="/music/artist/perry_katy/artist.jhtml">Katy Perry</a>, having finally run out of singles to release off <i>Teenage Dream,</i> will spend the entirety of 2012 shooting videos for objects around her house. Her hits will include "Toaster," "KitchenAid Tilt-Head Stand Mixer" and "This Towel Set Someone Gave Russell and I for Our Wedding That We Keep in the Guest Bathroom." » <a href="/music/artist/dr_dre/artist.jhtml">Dr. Dre</a> will indefinitely scrap <i>Detox</i> and instead drop a more age-appropriate album called <i>The Chronic Arthritis.</i> » <a href="/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> will wear a crazy hat or something. » <a href="/music/artist/rihanna/artist.jhtml">Rihanna</a> will release six albums in 2012, each more raunchy than the last. Titles include <i>Speculum,</i> <i>[Censored] [Censored] On My [Censored],</i> and <i>Songs About F—ing,</i> which, oddly, will be a note-for-note remake of Big Black's <i>Songs About F—ing.</i> » Dave Grohl is sure to do something awesome. » <a href="/music/artist/drake/artist.jhtml">Drake</a>'s sweater game will become so advanced that he will surpass Bill Cosby as the world's foremost expert on multi-hued knitwear. On a related note, he will also release a comedy album called <i>To Russell, My Brother, Whom I Slept With.</i> » <a href="/music/artist/minaj__nicki/artist.jhtml">Nicki Minaj</a> will stun the fashionistas when she appears at the annual Met Ball wearing a nice pantsuit she bought at Bealls. » <a href="/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> will finally get that bike without the training wheels, since he's a big boy now. » <a href="/music/artist/black_keys/artist.jhtml">The Black Keys</a>, buoyed by the success of their <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/the-black-keys/706819/lonely-boy.jhtml">"Lonely Boy" video</a>, will shoot another dance-only clip for "Gold on the Ceiling," this one set at Gallagher's 2000 and featuring nothing but topless women. Surprisingly, it will become the most-viewed music video in the history of everything. » <a href="/music/artist/lil_wayne/artist.jhtml">Lil Wayne</a> will come full circle, get a tattoo <i>of</i> his face <i>on</i> his face. » <a href="/music/artist/guns_n_roses/artist.jhtml">Guns N' Roses</a> will reunite at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in April, only with that dude who plays a guitar shaped like a foot filling in for Slash and Tommy Stinson replacing Duff on bass. So, actually, it won't be Guns N' Roses at all. » <a href="/music/artist/coldplay/artist.jhtml">Coldplay</a>'s Chris Martin is just going to be fingerpainting everything. » <a href="/music/artist/ross__rick__rap_/artist.jhtml">Rick Ross</a> will be named the Memphis Restaurant Association's Restaurateur of the Year for his tremendous achievements in <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/08/05/rick-ross-wingstop">Wingstop-ery.</a> » <a href="/music/artist/west_kanye/artist.jhtml">Kanye West</a> will <i>literally</i> explode. » Fans of <a href="/music/artist/skrillex/artist.jhtml">Skrillex</a> will stop and realize that, in 1997, EDM was poised take over America too, and we ended up with Limp Bizkit as a result.</p></p>

Reese Witherspoon Calls Taylor Swift ‘Profound’

At the 2011 MTV Movie Awards when Reese Witherspoon took the stage to accept her Generation Award, she used the moment to stand up for every young woman out there.
During her headline-making speech, she proudly told the girls watching the show that “I know it’s cool to be bad. I get it … but it’s also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show.” Now, many months later, Witherspoon sat down with MTV News on Tuesday (January 31) for “MTV First: This Means War.” And, during the lengthy chat, she opened up about her speech.
“Well, I have a 12-year-old daughter, and I take it all very seriously. I think there’s not a lot of positive images out there for young women, honestly,” she explained. “I don’t know, I just feel like shining the light on the good was an incredible move on MTV’s part and that you don’t have to sell yourself short and objectify yourself in order to be popular or liked or loved. And there’s many different ways to the watering hole and you can maintain you self-respect and still accomplish things.
“I don’t watch certain reality shows but there’s ones where people are doing cool, interesting things, like ‘Project Runway.’ But I’m not into women hating on other women or hitting each other or beating the crap out of each other to make money for a bunch of other people,” she continued. “I think that’s not what I want my kids to see.”
That feminist stance has made her the go-to role model for a new generation of stars, including Taylor Swift, who cites her as one of her idols. “I think it’s an accumulation of life experiences and hopefully you handle yourself with grace and dignity and life and that’s all you can hope for and hope to pass on to people,” she said of her own role-model status.
“And I think [Swift is] just an exemplary young lady,” she added. “It’s kind of interesting to see what a profound songwriter she is. I don’t even think anyone has realized, the long term is going to be the bigger revelation. It’s incredible how quickly she writes songs. We’ve hung out a couple of times; we live near each other in Nashville.”

February 1st, 2012HGTV, LA and Dining Room Tables
February 1st, 2012I’ve been watching a lot of HGTV since coming to LA. My favorite shows are House Hunters and House Hunters International. There’s also another show I like to watch called For Rent, but only because it makes me angry.
When it comes to apartments/homes, I think living in New York for the past eleven years has made me bitter because there was this whiny broad on For Rent a few nights ago who was looking at a huge place—A HUGE PLACE—and was like, “There’s no place for a dining room table…”
B*TCH, YOU’RE LUCKY TO GET A KITCHEN IN NEW YORK.
I hated her.
Now there’s some stupid lady on House Hunters who wants a townhouse with a fireplace that she can turn on with a light switch. IT HAS TO BE A LIGHT SWITCH because she doesn’t want to bend down and flip a switch on the floor.
WHO DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE?
Anyway, I know my LA update is WAY overdue (and truth be told I wrote a long one last week but for some reason it didn’t save so I lost the whole thing and I was so angry that I just said, “Ah, f*ck it,” and closed the computer instead of rewriting) but to give you a quick update, I AM SO HAPPY HERE. I MEAN, I’M REALLY, REALLY HAPPY. And I think living here and watching HGTV—both of these things combined—has made me realize that New York was just beating me down. I mean, the fireplace lady—yes, she’s an idiot. But there’s nothing wrong with wanting a dining room table. Why did I get so mad at that lady?
Since being here, at least once a day I ask myself why I have lived in New York for so long. (It’s like I had Stockholm Syndrome or something.) CALIFORNIA IS AWESOME. It’s like the promised land. It’s sunny all the time and there are birds and flowers everywhere. I have space out here. I have a sofa on the patio out here. I HAVE A SOFA OUTSIDE. I haven’t seen one rat since I’ve been here. But hummingbirds? THEY ZIP BY MY HEAD EVERY DAY. I am so happy.
I’m supposed to go back to New York in November, but truth be told, I’m not sure I will.

Captain America
February 1st, 2012Go see Captain America this weekend!

January 31st, 2012Lady Gaga’s Big 2012: A Psychic Weighs In
January 31st, 2012 ‘This tour is going to be really good for her,’ psychic Jesse Bravo says of Gaga’s planned 2012 BTW Ball.

<P>As 2012 rolls along, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> has already teased she has some <a href="/news/articles/1676582/pop-culture-news-2012-beyonce-lady-gaga.jhtml">big plans</a> ahead. So MTV News decided to look to New York-based psychic Jesse Bravo to see what fate has in store for the pop superstar. Bravo recently rolled up to the MTV News offices and looked into his crystal ball. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:722498.id:1676617" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "Lady Gaga for 2012, it's going to be sort of a slower year for her because she has her tour, which means she's not putting out a lot of new material," Bravo explained, despite Gaga's tease that she is working on her <a href="/news/articles/1675458/lady-gaga-next-album.jhtml">follow-up to 2011's <i>Born This Way</i></a>. "So for me, when I sort of looked up around there to see what was happening for her, I saw her sales sort of slow down because of new material. But she's also building up this new momentum for running her base for this tour. This tour is going to be really good for her." Gaga has already thought about the <a href="/news/articles/1675649/lady-gaga-born-this-way-tour.jhtml"><i>Born This Way</i> Ball</a>, tweeting over the holidays that she was pondering the things she wants to sell on tour. "Designing merch for the tour, when you see it you will die. <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/152392027093483520" target="_blank">#deathbyinexpensiveglamour</a>," she wrote. Mother Monster is also famously known for her wild style, which Bravo said won't disappoint in the next 12 months. "I believe her next big outfit is a cross between two things, and I was sort of stuck in between, like, where I should go with this because I saw two outfits, which means they can come in succession," he said. "I don't know which one is going to come first. But I will believe the one that I saw is this outfit, and I can't really describe it, but it's going to have lights embedded in it. So it's going to be pretty bizarre. And then I saw another outfit and it's like a body outfit, one that you spray-paint on, and I don't know if it's a stars-and-stripes theme, but I saw that there were stars and stripes in the right areas." In addition to all the ups in her career, Gaga's personal life will also prosper, according to Bravo, which means that she may get even more serious with her rumored beau and "You and I" co-star, "Vampire Diaries" actor Taylor Kinney. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:722468.id:1676617" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "Her personal life is going to stay stable for a while. The reason why is that on the outside she shows she's a strong character — and for business she is — but on the inside she's a mush. And so as a result, she needs to have her relationship in place, especially right now when she needs that support on going on something that's so big," he said. "Two years is a long, long time [to tour]. I don't think that relationship is going … it's not going out." Just how serious might they get? Well, Gaga, believe it or not, is already pondering a family, according to Bravo. (Although she did note in a recent interview that the only family she is focused on is <a href="/news/articles/1676799/beyonce-baby-lady-gaga.jhtml">her new music</a>.) "I also feel this need of having children. So I don't know how this is going to play because we know she has a tour and she's not going to stop the tour short to have a child," Bravo predicted. "And I know that work is on her mind, but I know that [her spirit guide] Liberace is telling me about a child. And I know that in the back of her mind, she wants one. I think with her, it's about scheduling … and I would say we're looking somewhere at 2014-2015. That's going to be her time." <i>What do you think about Jesse Bravo's predictions for Lady Gaga? Tell us in the comments!</i></p>

January 31st, 2012‘Office’ Spin-Off ‘Not Necessarily A Thing Yet’
January 30th, 2012‘It’s just an idea,’ writer and co-star B.J. Novak tells MTV News at the SAG Awards.

Rainn Wilson as Dwight in “The Office”

When Steve Carell’s Michael Scott left “The Office” last spring, no one really knew who would helm the Scranton Branch of Dunder Mifflin. Eventually the company hired from within and that coveted managerial spot went to Andy Bernard, played by “The Hangover” star Ed Helms. Just as goofy and perhaps less bumbling than his predecessor, week after week Bernard has used his Cornell University education to try to be the glue that keeps the office together.
When MTV News caught up with writer and castmate B.J. Novak on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards Sunday night, he teased that the show still has some legs and that, even eight seasons in, there’s still some surprises up the sleeves of the writers on the long-running NBC comedy, even as they think about how the show might wrap up someday.
“We have some things in mind how Jim and Pam might end up, and how Dwight might end up, and how Andy and Erin might end up,” he said. “And I’ve always had a vision for how Creed ends up, and it’s not pretty. But we’re still feeling it out. We’re still kind of learning the dynamics in the post-Steve Carell era and hopefully we’ll find a lot of new surprises.”
There is, however, lots of talk that one of those folks will get their own spin-off in the coming years. Last week, sources said that a Dwight Schrute spin-off is in the works and that it would focus on Rainn Wilson’s character and his life at Schrute Farms, incorporating other members of the eccentric Schrute family. But any plans for that show are mysterious to Novak. “It’s just an idea and I’m not involved in it,” he said. “And I’m interested to see how they develop it, but it’s not necessarily a thing yet. It’s just an idea.”
Would you be a regular viewer of a Dwight Schrute spin-off? Leave your comments below!
